“If you can't get rid of the skeleton in your closet, you'd best teach it to dance. (George Bernard Shaw)
The two pieces of furniture you can’t do without in a bedroom are the bed and the wardrobe. The right combination of style and comfort is easy to find for beds. For wardrobes things are a bit more complicated. A wardrobe has to be most of all functional, spacious and versatile. Choosing the right wardrobe for your bedroom is a key decision. Archiproduct’s catalogue offers you the chance to choose the wardrobe that best suits your needs and taste.

First: measure the space you have available. Usually sectional wardrobes are chosen for bedrooms since they can fit into whichever space but if you want it to be spacious enough you need 60 cm width and 3 m total length, in other words, 5 60 cm modules (standard door size). Carefully measure the height of the room to use all the available space and to avoid assembly problems at the same time. Keep enough space between the wardrobe and other pieces of furniture to let allow your passage and to use the furniture comfortably. Allow 80 cm between bed and wardrobe with swing doors. 60 cm if you get a wardrobe with sliding doors.

You got space problems? The market offers countless combinations to adapt the wardrobe to any room. Consider, for example, the purchase of an angular wardrobe composed by angular sections with folding doors or with a single trapezoidal section piece with a greater width. If it’s adequately sized and equipped, the corner piece can become a small walk-in wardrobe in which you can add shelves, chests of drawers and internal lighting systems. As an alternative, you could think of a bridge wardrobe that organizes the storage units like framing the bed. You could also add a TV cabinet, a large chest of drawers or door storage to use all the available space. Or you could think of a built-in wardrobe to get unused space on the wall. A brilliant solution to increase available square meters is the wall bed. It’s a versatile solution that lets you organize space in a more creative way because it can be pulled down whenever you want. It’s an ideal solution for studio apartments or for kids’ rooms. To visually increase the space in your room think about a mirrored wardrobe made with normal or silk screen printed mirrors. You can also have vertical or horizontal mirrors to get a dressing table effect.

Before you choose the perfect wardrobe, think about what you really need. The composition of the storage space in the wardrobe depends on the type of clothes you usually wear. You have lots of T-shirts, jumpers and a lot of bed sheets? Then you need a wardrobe with drawers inside. Does your dress code require a lot of suits? Then you need large vertical storage space and extra shelves and partitions.

You have taken care of sizes, configurations and space usage. Now you’ve got to think about aesthetics! It’s all about the doors, their size and how they open, their materials and finishings, their color and handles. First question: classic or contemporary? Choose a classic style wardrobe for a traditional, romantic or country style room. Are you into essential and minimalistic looks? Then choose a contemporary style wardrobe focusing on colors and door finishings. Wardrobes used to be made of solid wood, mostly cherry and walnut wood, in the past. Nowadays, instead, veneered wood is mainly used for the structures. Sandwich veneered panels or multilayered wood sheets covered with super thin melamine films are way lighter than solid wood. This way you get the same wood effect but at a lower cost, simpler production processes and lower weight to facilitate transport and assembly. Solid wood has its charm for sure, but its use is limited to precious pieces in classic style or for ethnic African or batik furniture. Choose limed oak or wengé for a room with intense tones. Shiny or opaque glass or silk sheet printed glass doors or leather covered doors for an elegant and fine room.
