About us The Kare brand symbolises furnishing ideas which are unique, non-conformist and authentic – never boring and always full of imagination and inspiration. Ever since 1981 the company has been surprising its fans and retail partners worldwide with an incomparable and inexhaustible variety of new furniture, lighting and furnishing accessories, all expressing an intense passion for design. They include fascinating discoveries from obscure artisan workshops and slightly crazy but unique pieces of furniture creating a 'wow' effect, not to mention lovingly crafted solid wood furniture that will be cherished for a lifetime. Kare succeeds like no other brand in tracking down style icons, developing trends and innovations in furniture design, and then using them to fulfil the dreams of furnishing enthusiasts. Open to spontaneity and with the courage to innovate, our trend scouts and creative spirits fashion surprising, affordable and desirable lifestyle collections. For unconventional and romantic spirits, for the wild and the style-conscious, for birds of paradise and all those who cast off all constraints when it comes to furnishing their own home. Inspiration - not convention Kare is an unconventional furniture company which strictly rejects run-of-the-mill concepts, operates strategically with a feel for the market and ensures continued success with revolutionary furnishing ideas. Jürgen Reiter and Peter Schönhofen are the guiding spirits behind all this. They founded the company as students, and as owners and managers they remain at the head of the company to the present day – working with passion, a readiness to innovate and personal commitment. As an international supplier and generator of change Kare is accordingly faster, smarter and more successful on the market. We decorate the world! With its own stores in Germany and Austria, hundreds of shop-in-shop outlets and around 60 brand partners, Kare inspires cosmopolitan spirits and young people of all ages in over 40 countries with an enthusiasm for individual furnishing. In 2014 the company is opening Kare Kraftwerk - its international flagship store offering a unique lifestyle experience and the furnishing ideas of the future in a former Munich power station. KARE opens new flagship store in Munich With its innovative concept and spectacular dimensions KARE Kraftwerk is setting a new benchmark in the world of furniture retailing. The fascinating industrial architecture of this former power station forms an impressive setting for the presentation of this trendsetting brand’s unconventional furnishing designs . With a sales area of 10,000 m² KARE Kraftwerk is to become Munich's top address for original and irrepressible furnishing ideas as well as the host location for culture, the arts and events. Customers will benefit from readily available products, attractive prices resulting from direct imports, Sunday viewing and the linked Kare24 web service, offering a shopping experience across all channels seven days a week. Munich/Garching-Hochbrück, August 2014: With its new flagship outlet the furniture company is presenting a store concept which will revolutionise the existing idea of a furniture shop. However, with its imposing dimensions the traditional architecture of this industrial monument from the 1960s is well worth seeing in itself. The huge transformers which have been preserved in their original condition, the 45 t loading crane above the former machine hall and views across several floors through the original boiler sections create enchanting sales areas. In addition to the furnishing ideas of tomorrow KARE Kraftwerk displays the entire range of the KARE collections, a floor with a planning studio for private and contract furnishing, and the “Kraftwerk kitchen”, providing a bar, bistro and cafe featuring modern, regional cuisine at reasonable prices and with spectacular views from the terrace. Combining experiment with the shopping experience “KARE Kraftwerk is a place of imagination, an experiment without preconceived results, and can’t be compared with conventional furniture stores,” is how Jürgen Reiter, founder and CEO of KARE Design GmbH, describes the new flagship store, adding: “Those who calculate only in sales per square metre would never have dreamt of revitalising an old power station. We did, however, because we want to offer our customers a shopping experience which combines unconventional furniture, inspiring events and creative gastronomy.” His business partner Peter Schönhofen, co-founder and CEO, comments: “KARE Kraftwerk represents the unmistakable beacon of our brand and is the symbol of a healthy growth strategy. This flagship store sets a signal for our 120 brand partners in more than 40 countries. Here in Munich, where our company was established, we are highlighting the essence of our philosophy: furnishing ideas which are different, nonconformist and never boring. A magnet for unconventional thinkers and modern romantic spirits, for the wild and for birds of paradise, and for those who cast off all constraints when it comes to furnishing their home.” Machine shops turned into furnishing oases! Customers can explore the highly diverse sections of the building like walk-on theatrical sets. Across five floors furniture, lamps, pictures, mirrors and furnishing accessories are staged in creative theme worlds. Among them surprise effects are created by unique antique pieces and artefacts from all around the world which have been hand-picked and assembled by the company's purchasing and creative departments. And everything is backed up by art installations, hovering chandeliers and lighting effects. This large product diversity is arranged in cathedral-like spaces and in the former power station control room which, flooded with light, now represents the command centre of the KARE furnishing spectacular. Sustainability put into practice The former power station generated district heating and electricity on the basis of environmentally-friendly natural gas. In 2010 its owner decided to preserve the building instead of demolishing it. Conserving a historic industrial monument played an important part in the decision taken by KARE’s CEOs to move into the power station as the principal tenant. “The idea of investing courage and imagination in giving this impressive architecture a new purpose while making use of the energy and materials it incorporates - this concept creates something which is sustainable and conserves resources. No new building could even begin to compare with the unique atmosphere created by Kraftwerk”. Linking POS and online options With the store concept of KARE Kraftwerk the management duo in charge of the trendsetting furnishing brand don’t just aim to create a new benchmark for the international furniture business. Always with the customer in mind, with their Sunday viewing they are also providing opportunities for a unique shopping experience seven days a week. Sundays are an invitation to make new discoveries and try out the furniture, which then can be ordered immediately thanks to the link with Kare’s online service. The experience for the whole family is supplemented by culinary delicacies in the restaurant facilities. “In our industry online and off-line complementeach other”, states Peter Schönhofen, adding: “KARE’s furnishing world experienced emotionally in threedimensional reality will make KARE Kraftwerk the world's finest design house”.
