Further details

Construction joint injections
These injections are always carried out with the aim of grouting and sealing the entire element cross-section. This is best achieved by ensuring that the drill hole remedial grouting crosses the joint roughly at the element centreline. As a rule of thumb, the required drill hole spacing should equal half the element thickness. The relevant drawings must be consulted in advance to establish the course of the joint, whether horizontal or vertical. Depending on the selected waterproofing system, any joint seals incorporated in the original construction may favour or hamper the success of the remedial works.
Crack injections
These injections are always carried out with the aim of grouting and sealing the entire element cross-section. This is best achieved by ensuring that the drill hole for remedial grouting crosses the crack roughly at the element centreline. Given that cracks are only visible at the surface, with no indication of their course within the building fabric, holes are normally drilled alternately on either side of the crack at an angle of approx. 45°. Depending on the anticipated change in crack width, it may prove useful to additionally tape over the crack after grouting.
Curtain grouting
Curtain grouting involves the drilling of holes from the inside of the structure through the external envelope and injecting grout between the structural elements and surrounding soil. The aim is to fill the adjoining ground with material in such a way as to create a continuous grout membrane or curtain around the outside of the structure. This remedial waterproofing method is normally only adopted where the structural fabric is no longer accessible from the outside (e.g. in the case of ground slabs) or where the necessary excavations would entail a disproportionately high cost. The injections are always carried out perpendicular to the structural element on the basis of a predetermined drilling grid. Material consumption is typically in the order of 30-70 ltr/m2, depending on soil type.
