Piero Bottoni nasce nel 1903 a Milano, dove si laurea in architettura nel 1926. Fin da subito la sua formazione complessa (Brera e Politecnico) lo porta a praticare tutti i campi della trasformazione dell'ambiente fisico: dall'architettura all'urbanistica, dal design di oggetti all'architettura d'interni, in un intenso rapporto con altre arti (pittura, scultura, arte musiva, fotografia e cinema). È tra i protagonisti italiani del Razionalismo e, dopo la guerra, anche della sua revisione critica.
