The Italian-Spanish duo Gracia Cumini drew on inspiration from a typical element in Spain in the fifties for design of the Almo sofa. Almo is short for almohada, a traditional, comfortable Iberian pillow whose long, narrow, low shape makes it perfect also as a handy lumbar cushion or arm rest.
Almo multiplies the visual effect of the cushion in depth, generating a harmonious series of horizontal lines. The first, soft top cushion runs the entire length of the sofa.
The second level sees continuation of the same comfy uninterrupted lines. The design of the sides, which bloom softly outwards, and the high back, give this sofa an open, welcoming look from the front.
Almo becomes a micro space within space. A private, protective, personal place, tailormade to fit around new habits and gestures. For reading, listening to music, eating, working or watching a film.
The sofa, in the two-seater, large two-seater and three-seater versions, can be entirely upholstered in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System, Nest, Soul or Century ranges. As an alternative, Pelle Frau® leather upholstery for the frame and Poltrona Frau textiles for cushions and seat. All the stitching is same colour. Polyurethane foam and polyester wadding padding in the lumbar cushion, on armrests and for the back. The springs in the seat, padded in polyurethane foam and reinforced in pressed felt and polyester wadding, are made from elastic belts. Frame in birch and poplar plywood and solid tulipier wood for the back and armrests. Solid beech and poplar for the frame boards and cross boards in the seat, birch plywood for the ends and MDF for front and rear panels. Metal details on the shelf under the seat with pearly gunmetal grey finish. Feet in glossy black nylon.
