GOOD MORNING - BLEEDING TOWN
Good Morning - Bleeding Town - Silkscreen on paper. Dominance of nature, importance of colour, refusal of the straight line, of compliance and of uniformity were part of Frieddensreich Hundertwasser’s principles and seem perfectly synthesised in the Good Morning City – Bleeding Town silkscreen print project. The fanciful building coming straight out of the Viennese artist’s teeming imagination stands almost for a manifesto against the “sinister” classical architecture Hundertwasser rejected.
As Hundertwasser strived to have his work accessible to the larger public, he decided to make 10 000 copies of Good Morning City – Bleeding Town but ended-up dedicating two full years of his life to this print as it had 80 variations differing markedly in colour and form using the newest printing techniques available at that time. These included metallic-stamp printing, phosphorescent colours that glow in the dark, reflecting glass-bead appliqués, convex embossing and an incredible number of vibrant colour overprints painted separately on transparent foil and transferred to the screen. He also played with infinite colour combinations in all parts of the print.
