”It should be noted that children at play are not playing about; their games should be seen as their most serious-minded activity.” (Michel de Montaigne)
The American Academy of Pediatrics claims that playing is necessary to children’s correct development. It is so important that the United Nations considers it a fundamental right of every child. Games are essential for kids. Through them they discover the world, they learn how to interact with each other and to challenge their limits. There are games for any age: shapes, colors and materials for the youngest; role playing games (doll houses, toy kitchens) for the older ones and more complex and educational games (puzzles, constructions, jewel making) for the little men and women. Each game has a pedagogical value but let’s not forget the importance of free play: playing with simple objects that stimulate the child’s fantasy in creating imaginary worlds.
