Conceived in 1957 by Julius T. Kalmar, the iconic Fliegenbein BL floor lamp over the years has become the basis for a product range including table, standing and hanging lights. The year 2017 marks a further step in the evolution of the Fliegenbein collection thanks to the launch of Fliegenbein PL pendant light conceived by Garth Roberts, Creative Director of Kalmar Werkstätten. Mirroring the silhouette of the Fliegenbein SL standing lamp, the new pendant produces overhead ambient light that filters through a pleated silken shade and a frosted glass diffuser. The elongated shade injects modern personality into a space. Fliegenbein PL also features single and double tubes—available in light grey, dark grey, or brown matte lacquers—in its shade and mounting plate that harmonize with the overall Fliegenbein series’ signature splayed leg. A wheat-coloured electrical cord dances around the fixture’s braided-steel suspension wire.
The floor lamp Fliegenbein gets its name from its base, which resembles the legs of a housefly. This freestanding armature comprises two bent metal tubes that merge into a single shaft; a silken shade is suspended near the top of the dark, matte-finished column. The pleated shade injects volume and texture into the composition, as the base itself possesses a visual lightweightness and geometric elegance belying its strength. The pairing of contrasts makes Fliegenbein a complement to any modern living environment. Features Kalmar Werkstätten’s signature wheat-colored electrical cord merges seamlessly into one of Fliegenbein legs.
