Design Year

With her Phobos pedestal table, Marie Christine Dorner once again explores her concept, ‘Matière matters’, first launched in 2004 : the search for beauty does not necessarily mean the creation of new forms but may well involve revealing the nobility of the material used when it is well worked. Originally a humble material, copper has become highly fashionable. Shiny and warm, it is just at ease in a classic interior as it is in more contemporary surroundings. Its ever-changing reflective nature warms the atmosphere and today brings a touch of unostentatious luxury. Ecological, since it is 100 % recyclable, it is both modern and nostalgic at the same time. Marie Christine Dorner achieved mastery of this material when constructing the Phobos pivoting table, which she designed as practical object, an everyday servant which never strays far from the settee of which it is the extension. Its perfectly stable tripod base, shaped like the LEM (Lunar Excursion Module), is extended by a shaped arm which supports the pivoting top: “It turns and approaches us, moving away just as easily. The Phobos occasional table is an attractive copper object, in perpetual movement, an amiable satellite.”
