Modular triangular Corian® side table
When DuPont launched the material Corian® in 1967, it revolutionized the design world as it differentiated itself from traditional conventions for material use and functionality. That form follows function is the mantra for the design company Massproductions. The two will now meet in a new project, The Point Tables – a study in Corian® and its characteristics. With the Point tables, Massproductions continues its reinterpretation of the modernistic expression.
“The tables are conceived as floating surfaces in Corian®, supported by the thinnest of legs in the same material. Corian® is a material which has been around for a long time, yet is mostly used as a surfacing material in kitchens or bathrooms”, explains chief designer Chris Martin.
The Point tables have a minimalistic expression with three legs, which gives the tables their characteristic shape. The triangular tables are constructed in one material, Corian®, which in combination with its durable features gives the tables a broad usage and makes the tables suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
The versatile tables are available in two sizes: Point 60 and Point 30 in soft nuances that harmonize well together. When combined, the tables can create infinitive geometric compositions when put together in pairs or more – and in various colours.
The choice to work with one material called for complex engineering and a long, extensive prototyping phase before the tables where put into production: “We create products that are made to last over time – both aesthetically and physically. That’s why we work closely with engineers and our production units during the entire product development phase. This means that our vision is followed 100%”, explains Chris Martin.
