From Das Haus to Your House
27/01/2020 - A velvety carpet in turquoise and beige flows wave-like from the ceiling to the corridor: the design label pulpo offered its products a very special stage at this year's imm cologne with a space-filling trade fair presence in cooperation with Sebastian Herkner, leaving no chance for visitors to pass by.

The focus was on new playful designs that demonstrated the highest level of craftsmanship and a fine feeling for materials. Pulpo welcomes new collaborators in Spanish MUT Design, who also presented their first collection together in the setup of 'Das Haus 2020'.

The new aspa series of side tables by MUT Design brings the uniqueness and at the same time the beauty of glass to the point: a geometric design of five elements, each consisting of a double layer of glass, whose special structure creates a dynamic play of light and colour.

The series is an exercise in simple geometry – aspa translates to the intersection of straight planes. Each table brings together five glass panels converging at their centre. As each straight line is brought in, the coloured transparency of the glass form darkens to produce a layered aesthetic to the series. This layered form is highlighted through a combination of smooth glass surfaces backing onto rippled and textured chapel glass panels. Each panel altering reflections and transparencies to create a mesmerising centre-piece.

The latest collaboration with French designer Ferréol Babin presents his unique ability to combine materials and textures into a series of shelves. The brut series combines a smooth glass silhouette with raw off-cut marble slabs from Austri. Simple in appearance, the shelves play with materiality to present a series that is visually light and structurally grounded.

In 2019 pulpo presented the alwa series by Sebastian Herkner in all black. In Cologne the series was on show in a combination of a hazy solid white glass and an industrial galvanised steel base. Celebrating the beauty of each unique ripple, bubble and swirl. The alwa collection of coffee and side tables traps the movement of glass in a generous time capsule. Inspired by undulating surface water, the collection mixes a sturdy form with a soft aesthetic.

Last but defenitly not least, creating a contrast between the solid forms of kaboom, oooh, pow and wham, the seating collections in a faux longhair lamb fur designed by Hermann August Weizeneger was on show for the first time. A combination of bold forms and highly textured upholstery creates a new language for each piece.

Inspired by the scale and shapes of Bauhaus architecture - yet softened by a fully upholstered form, the series provides strong lines and soft surfaces. kaboom + oooh + pow + wham can be used to make your own interior environments. The four-member family can be built low, high or wide; from the low oooh ottoman, the elevated kaboom lounge chair, or the low embrace of the pow armchair and extended pow sofa. Each member shares generous proportions and a soft embrace, allowing you to mix and match until your interior typography is just right.
