Wästberg at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2020
05/02/2020 - Swedish lighting brand Wästberg is to debut a number of new collaborations at Stockholm’s annual Furniture & Light Fair (Stand: A 07:20) from 4th – 8th February 2019.

w203 ilumina, developed in collaboration with Ilse Crawford is an update on the classical library lamp, utlising modern lighting technology. For the home or the office, it offers a familiar and gentle ambient and directed light. Continuing Wästberg’s love for materials, the lamp is made of copper with a high gloss finish that will eventually tarnish beautifully with age. It is also available in a brushed aluminum version and eggshell white.

w203 ilumina is a beautiful object that illuminates without a visible light source. A high-frequency driver provides a flicker-free led light that is dimmable. The slotted holes in the shade create a distinctive and pleasant lighting effect.

w202 halo, designed in collaboration with David Chipperfield is an homage to the classic light bulb. In times when we are less and less able to recall this previously common everyday object, w202 halo revives its unity of light and form – the objectification of light.

The w202 halo family is comprised of three types of conical shades for public and private environments. The luminaire is characterised by a shade resting on a bulb, both of which are made from mouth-blown opal glass. This dimmable lamp utilises energy efficient technology and offers both ambient and directed light.

w201 extra small pendant, created with Claesson Koivisto Rune is a follow up to the w151 extra large pendant, which launched 2015.

The ‘extra small pendants’ are, as the name implies, about scale. Wästberg worked with the designers to explore what the smallest size of these hanging lamps could be, while ensuring their light-emitting performance and maintained integrity of the three archetypical cone shapes. While the elder siblings, the w151 extra large pendants make a grand gesture in a room, these new extrasmall pendants make a smaller, more intimate, but equally important gesture to light the home.

Where we need light in our modern lives, we also often need power. The w182 pastille usb-c developed in collaboration with Sam Hecht and Kim Colin is a powerful accessory, that can be attached to the standard w182 pastille base and pin versions. It is available with an 18 or 65-watt USB-C outlet – the latter enough to power even the most heavy-duty laptops. The w182 pastille lamp was first launched in 2019.

Alongside these new collections, Wästberg will also showcase the w181 linier, w127 winkel and the full w102 chipperfield range.

At first glance, the w181 linier developed in collaboration with Dirk Winkel resembles a linear pendant lamp. However, a closer look at its geometrically strict, minimalist body reveals a series of 256 individual optical systems, packed ultra-tight, providing a crisp directed light and effective glare protection. Combined with a deep-recessed long linear lens with spot characteristics and separate anti-glare compartments, this allows for a precisely defined field of warm, well-balanced and glare-free light. For a smoother user experience, the w181 linier is available with integrated dimming wheels at both ends; each can be turned independently to set the desired light level.

The w127 winkel also designed with Dirk Winkel has a state-of-the-art lighting technique to achieve the best possible combination of light distribution, light quality and efficiency – resulting in what Wästberg believe to be the most refined task light ever seen. The new version, w127 winkel ap, features a new arm for easy integration into workstation surfaces – and, of course, the same brilliant lighting technology as the original w127 winkel.

The w102 chipperfield, first launched in 2010, is simple yet striking with its clear distinction between base, arm and lamp head, an absence of visible joints, minimal directional movement – without compromising on function. The original w102 chipperfield desk lamp is now part of an entire family, with a wall lamp, a floor lamp and a surface mounted pin version. Furthermore, a new material has been introduced as an addition to the classic brass version: black steel, using a special blackening process that results in a wonderfully satiny, grey-black finish. This is the first time the w102 has been shown at the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.
