Abitex is specialised in the production and marketing of eco-leathers and fire-retardant fabrics, which has recently emerged in the contract and naval sectors thanks to investments in machinery, skills and research. The idea behind the Abitex mission is to identify the most environmentally-friendly production methods, observing nature and its processes to obtain technologically improved products and make natural yarns fireproof in the most ecological way possible.
Despite being a relatively new company and the youngest of a large group, Abitex bases its production on technical expertise that is well rooted in the field. Officially established in 2010, Abitex is, in fact, the result of decades of experience in processing and marketing textile products. The know-how and wisdom of its operating team, coordinated by people with more than forty years of experience in the furnishing and textile field have contributed to strengthening its spirit.
Abitex specialises in activities ranging from yarn processing to final finishing of the product and associated certifications, at the same time, guaranteeing cost-efficient production and top quality services.
Environmental issues are central to Abitex's attention and actions. Therefore, being specialised in processing eco-leathers, Abitex has decided to focus on imitation leathers with phthalate-free plasticisers, maintaining their fire-retardant and physical-mechanical properties that make the products appealing to specific market segments, such as the contract sector. "We are investing heavily in research and development - explains Bortolossi, sales director of Abitex - to find new technologies that are as environmental-friendly as possible and that are able to give natural yarns, both of animal and plant origin, fire-resistant properties without affecting the softness and the intrinsic characteristics of the fibre, moving away from modern chemistry"..
Two million metres in stock service
To satisfy the demand for short lead times, Abitex has invested in warehouse facilities and cutting machines to ensure faster deliveries, as well as ultra-fast shipping of DIN A4 colour swatches to architects and professionals.

Innovation and craftsmanship
Investments in new machinery and new technologies are all very well, but we must not forget the value of each processing stage or the finest details, whose perfection can only be ensured by the craftsmanship and experience of the artisans. Accurate techniques used in Abitex, such as warp and spindle tying, are performed by the expert hands of its skilled employees; these techniques are fundamental to guaranteeing the quality that is required nowadays, at least as much as service speed.

Abitex, in detail
The company has:
- 18 + 6 looms: dobby and jacquard, also double width for infinite patterns with many types of yarn.
- An ink jet plotter for digital printing on a great number of fabric backings and for maximum customisation.
- A warehouse containing about 2,000,000 metres of fabric with radiofrequency marking and an automatic in-line system for cutting, counter-marking and storage. The new software allows us to trace each individual length for life.
Internal fabric test laboratory
Before being transferred to the warehouse, all products are subjected to the following tests, depending on requirements:
- washing and shrinkage
- colour fastness to rubbing by crock meter
- dynamometer traction
- Martindale rubbing
- light resistance
- jungle test - premature ageing through climatic chamber
