For over a century, Billiani has specialised in the production of wood chairs. Based in Manzano in Friuli Venezia Giulia, the company founded in 1911 produces seating for the home and contract markets, combining tradition with an innovative spirit fuelled by partnerships with leading Italian and international designers. Billiani's production takes place in the "Chair Triangle" manufacturing district in the heart of Friuli; it is entrusted to small, highly specialised woodworking shops that perpetuate the deeply rooted regional culture. In 2019, with Cristina Celestino's new artistic direction, the brand’s style became more sophisticated while remaining faithful to wood as Billiani's mainstay, respecting the history, tradition and art of a brand leader for well over a century. Together with La Cividina, Billiani is partner in the Italian Flair & Synergy For Contract network of companies present on international markets to offer consumers the widest range of products with quality guaranteed by Made-in-Italy production and design studied to the smallest detail.

Billiani collections for the home and contract sectors

The Billiani catalogue contains numerous solutions for offices, public structures, hotels and bars. The chairs, the brand's core business, furnish waiting rooms and meeting areas with taste and sobriety. Fitt Classic is a collection of timeless wood chairs with a versatile and functional design that is essential and comfortable at the same time. Designed by Victor Carrasco, the collection later expanded to include the Fitt Hug series with the characteristic ash shell and a more streamlined and linear design. New Billiani additions comprise the Collezione Frisée and Corolla chairs, both designed by Cristina Celestino. Frisée combines an ironic and slightly frivolous design with the solidity of wood, while Corolla, characterised by soft rounded volumes, suggests the fashion world. Aside from chairs for the residential sector, the brand offers a wide range of sofas, armchairs, dormeuse, pouffes and footstools. Beyond seating, Billiani provides indoor and outdoor tables, coffee tables and benches.

Billiani history: wood crafts since 1911

The history of the Billiani brand is firmly rooted in the artisan tradition that makes Made-in-Italy a symbol of Italian excellence. Luigi Billiani founded the company in the Manzano area in Friuli on the border with the Austro-Hungarian Empire. What began as a small woodworking shop grew during the Second World War to become a full-blown production district gaining regional renown. With the second generation and the post-war economic boom, management passed to Luigi’s sons Ottone, Orlando, Lino and Bruno; the company asserted itself on the market with its production of well-crafted wood chairs using excellent materials. The 1980s saw the influence of the third generation when Luigi Billiani, the founder's grandson, succeeded in giving the brand an international profile, especially in the contract furnishings sector. In 1997, Billiani's definitive success came about under Veronik Romanutti who established important collaborations with designers like Marco Ferreri and Emilio Nanni. Billiani's partnership with the most authoritative names on the design scene continued over the following years when the brand welcomed the ideas of such internationally distinguished creatives as Werther Toffoloni, Harri Koskinen and Michael Geldmacher. Billiani's constant growth has been confirmed by its participation in some of the world's most prestigious design events like the Salone del Mobile in Milan and the exhibition of its projects in prominent museums, from MoMA in New York to the Triennale in Milan.
