25 years is not a long time in most businesses. In ours, though, it’s practically forever. That’s because, simply put, there was no woven outdoor furniture industry before DEDON came along. The first to weave synthetic fiber into luxury outdoor designs, the first to place an absolute premium on quality, the first to become a truly global brand setting the standard for woven outdoor furniture since its founding in 1990.

The history of a young but successful brand

The story begins with a pioneering idea and an inspired vision. The idea — to create high-end woven furniture using a sophisticated synthetic fiber, weather-resistant and aesthetically refined — revolutionized the outdoor market. The vision — of outdoor living rooms furnished with the same attention to looks and luxurious comfort as those inside the home — has changed the way we live outdoors, enabling people around the world to enjoy more of life’s precious moments together under the open skies.
Working closely with some of the world’s leading designers, from household names to emerging talents, DEDON has been raising the bar for design and innovation in outdoor furniture since the beginning. DEDON was born out of a love of the outdoors, a willingness to think differently and a relentless pursuit of quality. More than 25 years and 1000 employees later, not that much has changed.
Bobby Dekeyser founded DEDON in 1990. Starting with an innovative, weatherproof synthetic fiber, the company set out to create a new kind of woven outdoor furniture, one that combined modern technology with luxurious hand-craftsmanship. A search for the world’s best weavers led DEDON to Cebu Island in the Philippines. While the early years were marked by trial and error, the uniqueness of the product, the artistry of the weaving and the company’s obsession with quality set DEDON apart from the beginning.

The quality of Dedon outdoor furniture

It’s an obsession for us—the quality of our designs, materials, craftsmanship, service, even the quality of our lives. Whatever we do, it has to be the best, starting with our fiber. Researched, developed, manufactured and tested at our state-of-the-art production facilities in northern Germany, environmentally-friendly DEDON fiber is unrivaled for strength, durability, weather fastness and luxuriousness of color, texture and touch. Our fiber is recyclable and non-toxic, burning as cleanly as candle wax.
Seven fully-automated extrusion machines churn out some 55,000km of DEDON fiber per year, with a consistency that borders on perfection. Sophisticated equipment simulates decades of exposure to sunlight, saltwater, chlorine and more, ensuring that every spool of fiber meets our rigorous quality standards. Unique within the outdoor industry, DEDON owns and operates both furniture and fiber production, allowing us to brings fiber specialists and world-class designers together to develop innovative new fiber colors, profiles, textures and more. More than just a material, DEDON fiber becomes an expression of a collection’s soul.
DEDON oversees all aspects of its products’ creation, ensuring that every piece of woven furniture represents the perfect mix of centuries-old craftsmanship and modern technology. DEDON works exclusively with the master craftspeople of Cebu Island, Philippines, whose world-renowned weaving skills help set DEDON apart. At our furniture production facilities in the Philippines, we subject every piece of handwoven piece to 16 quality assurance tests, including four at the end of production, each lasting 15 to 20 minutes. Not all DEDON products are made with fiber, of course, but our passion for quality extends to every material we use, from our selection of fine outdoor fabrics to Ferrari Batyline®, Italian aluminium and premium teak, high-end safety glass to porcelain, all procured from leading high-end suppliers. The result is luxurious furniture that endures.
Thanks to its innovative, organic structure and the cocoon-like sense of protection it affords, the NESTREST lounger has established itself as icon of contemporary design. Laden with cushions, its interior is supremely comfortable, breathable and private, the special fiber weave allowing those inside to see out while preventing those outside from looking in.
The ORBIT love seat is the original icon of modern outdoor furniture design. A sensation from the moment it launched, this multiple-awards-winner by Richard Frinier continues to delight, surprise and inspire more than a decade later. Indeed, its timeless design, generous proportions, easy mobility and meticulous hand-craftsmanship will never go out of style.

The Dedon island

With headquarters in Germany, production facilities in the Philippines, a subsidiary in the US, offices in Hong Kong, showrooms and representatives around the globe, and some 1,000 employees working for the company worldwide, DEDON is truly an international brand.
Today, we are represented in more than 80 countries on six continents and the number keeps growing. With an extensive network of importers and distributors the world over DEDON is uniquely positioned to provide the finest products and services to customers everywhere, including contract partners undertaking high-end projects in the most far-flung of locations.
There are more than 7,000 islands in the Philippine archipelago, but there’s nowhere in the world like DEDON ISLAND. Located at the southeastern tip of reef-ringed Siargao, just around the corner from the legendary Cloud Nine surfing wave and the Philippine Deep, this palm-fringed paradise nestles between ancient mangrove forests and the white-sanded beaches and crystal blue waters of its own tranquil bay.
We first visited Siargao some fifteen years ago on trips to our production facilities in Cebu. Then we started bringing friends, partners and designers. Eventually, we created DEDON ISLAND. More than just another beautiful resort, more than just another memorable stop on the Tour du Monde, DEDON ISLAND serves as our own Outdoor Living Lab, a place to dream up not only new products but new ways of living under the open skies. ...
