Neri&Hu Design and Research Office was founded in 2004 in Shanghai by Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu. The office is composed of an interdisciplinary and multicultural team of professionals who tackle different scales of design from architecture to interior design, installations, furniture, branding and graphics. Lyndon Neri was born in 1965 in the Philippines while Rossana Hu was born in Taiwan in 1968; both obtained degrees in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley and then followed their own paths with a Masters in Architecture at Harvard (Lyndon) and a Masters in Architecture and Urban Planning at Princeton (Rossana). In addition to their professional activities, they also teach at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, the Yale School of Architecture and the Graduate School of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong.
In Shanghai, they also founded Design Republic, a concept store that showcases new products created by young global designers chosen by Neri and Hu. The flagship store, Design Republic Design Commune, won the DFA (Design For Asia) Grand Award of Environmental Design for commercial spaces. In parallel, they are developing products for their 'neri&hu' brand, which has already won several awards. In addition to architecture and interiors, Neri&Hu Design and Research Office is actively working on a series of industrial design products for various brands in Europe including Agape, Arflex (Cradle furniture), Artemide (NH and Yanzi lamp collection), BD Barcelona Design, BOLON, ClassiCon, Concrete LCDA, Driade, Fritz Hansen, Gandia Blasco, GAN (the LAN line of sofas, cushions and carpets), Kvadrat, LEMA, Meritalia, Molteni&C, MOOOI, Nanimarquina, Offecct, Paola C., Parachilna, Poltrona Frau (with the MI and REn furniture line and Zhuang desk objects), Porro, Riva 1920, S. Pellegrino, Wallpaper* Handmade, Viabizzuno. They are design directors of the Asia-based Stellar Works, and design tables, chairs, wardrobes, stools and sofas for the brand.
Neri and Hu have been the recipients of many prestigious awards: The Madrid Design Festival Award (2020); Design for Asia Grand Award (2020); The Blueprint Overall Award for Design (2019); The PLAN Award (2018); Designer of the Year, Elle Deco International Design Awards (2017); Interior Designers of the Year, Iconic Awards (2017); INSIDE - World Festival of Interiors (2017); Designer of the Year, Elle Deco Japan Design Awards (2016); Dezeen Hotlist (2016); Designer of the Year, Maison & Objet Asia (2015); Designer of the Year, Wallpaper* (2014); Far Eastern Architectural Design Award (2014); US Interior Design Hall of Fame induction (2013); AR Emerging Architecture Award (2010); Red Dot Award in Communication for Manifesto (2010); Design Vanguard, Architectural Record (2009). Their work has been published in the world's leading magazines. They curated the book entitled "Persistence of Vision" in 2007. More recently, their first monograph –"Neri&Hu Design and Research Office: Works and Projects 2004-2014" - was published by Park Books.
