Paul Loebach

Designer

Brooklyn / United States

Paul Loebach was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio amid the industrial landscape of the Midwestern US, where he left to graduate from Rhode Island School of Design in 2002. After graduating from RISD, Paul moved to New York City and established a design studio where he currently works as a consultant, specializing in product design, wood furniture, and emerging manufacturing technologies.

Descended from a long line of German woodworkers, Paul’s grandfather built airplanes for the U.S. military in the 1940’s, and his father is a manufacturing engineer who developed new plastic molding technologies for Union Carbide in the 1970’s. His work is a part of an idealistic transformation from a craft-based past to a design/engineering oriented future.

Paul writes about his work, “I’m interested in design for the basic purpose of giving objects meaning. Design is a structured language that holds a balance between the continuity of recognizable imagery, and the poetic shift of innovation as we adapt objects to our changing lifestyles. The future of design is an embodiment of the profoundly human need to structure our environment as a reflection of ourselves.” ... More ... less
