Edra is a family business founded in 1987 by Valerio and Monica Mazzei, the second generation of a family of furniture makers. The company is based in Perignano, Tuscany, in one of the most important furniture districts in Italy. Proud supporter of "made in Tuscany", Edra produces furniture and accessories with an exclusive and surprising design, combined with the local artisan tradition, made of art and manual skill. The distinctive values of Edra can be identified in the constant technological research, aimed at improving the products in terms of durability and comfort, alongside the aesthetic one, aimed at catching trends and fashions in advance. Under the artistic guidance of Massimo Morozzi, whom the company fondly remembers, names like Zaha Hadid, the brothers Fernando and Humberto Campana, Jacopo Foggini, Masanori Umeda and many others have collaborated with Edra. Today Edra has reached a good level of international fame, and can boast products included in the collections of prestigious museums such as the MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, just to name a few.

Edra upholstered furniture: innovation, quality and timeless elegance

From the decades-long collaboration with designer Francesco Binfaré, collections of sofas and armchairs have emerged that stand out for their quality and timeless elegance. The characteristic element of these upholstered furniture collections is the "intelligent cushion", developed by the designer after years of research. The structure of this particular cushion, used for the armrests and backrests of the modular sofas of the Standard, Absolu, Essential collections and the swivel leather armchair Chiara, consists of invisible mechanisms hidden inside. The special joints allow you to fold the cushion at will, with a simple gesture of the hand. The chairs have recently been joined by the Stand by Me double bed, in which the designer has provided a headboard consisting of two separately adjustable smart cushions. Another flagship of Edra's research is Gellyfoam, a material used for all padding, made with a special foam derived from the biomedical sector, which provides soft and firm support at the same time. Edra also pays special attention to fabrics, which are considered an integral part of the project and not a simple covering. Made exclusively for Edra, they must have as requirements a high technical quality and meet, from an aesthetic point of view, the language of the object. This requirement becomes fundamental in the case of unconventional projects, such as the Cipria collection designed by Fernando and Humberto Campana. Inspired by the powder duvets, the Cipria sofa and the Cipria bed are composed of a painted tubular metal structure and plywood, completely hidden from view by cushions covered with eco-friendly fur. The eclectic duo has designed other unusual objects for Edra, such as the sofa Boa, whose structure consists solely of a 120-metre long, padded tube covered in velvet, which is hand-woven to form a welcoming and comfortable nest. Unforgettable are the iconic armchairs designed by Masanori Umeda, former member of the Memphis group led by Ettore Sotsass. Inspired by floral motifs, the designer created the lily shaped Getsuen armchair, the Rose Chair, which is padded with rose petal-shaped cushions and the Soshun stools, with a slightly inclined tubular steel frame and flower-shaped upholstered seats. Another iconic piece with a strong aesthetic and evocative impact is the Tatlin sofa designed by Mario Cananzi and Roberto Semprini. The round shape is a reinterpretation of the "indiscret" sofa, in vogue in Victorian times, while the central spiral backrest is inspired by the famous Tatlin tower, symbol of constructivism.

Seats, furniture and accessories with an exclusive and unmistakable design

The theme of weaving is very dear to the Campana brothers, as shown by the collections that share the same motif in different materials. The Vermelha armchair is composed of an enveloping tubular steel frame, covered with hundreds of weaves made with a special cord covered with cotton. The Corallo collection includes an armchair and a double bed whose structure is made with a hand-bent stainless-steel wire. The designer duo found in Edra the perfect client to experiment with new combinations, as in the Cabana collection, inspired by primitive huts. The Cabana canopy bed is covered with a special drapery of synthetic raffia threads, while the Cabana sideboard conceals, behind the same covering, five circular shelves of decreasing dimensions. Using a surface formed by a mosaic of irregular pieces of methacrylate mirrored in gold or silver, the Campana brothers have created the Scrigno series of storage units, the Brasilia table and the Miraggio mirror. The designer Jacopo Foggini, moved by the desire to cross the frontiers between art and design, has specialized in the processing of methacrylates and polycarbonates, which he uses in the form of filaments or in fusion, to make his objects. The result is handmade chairs characterized by extraordinary transparency and different patterns for each piece, such as the Gilda B chair, the Ella swivel chair, the Margherita swivel chair or the Alice luminous armchair. ...
