Loewe is a German company specialising in
high-end TV sets, radios and audio systems. The brand's name is inextricably linked to the birth and development of television. Its 100-year history is replete with innovative and cutting-edge solutions. Loewe was founded in Berlin in 1923 by engineer Siegmund Loewe, who, together with his brother David, founded Radiofrequenz GmbH. The company produced
radio equipment, but its focus soon shifted to research in the field of image transmission. At the time, several experiments were underway in Europe and the USA, and the Loewe brothers enlisted the help of physicist Manfred von Ardenne. The result was the development of a multiple electron tube, or three-electrode valve, which condensed all necessary components into one compact element. Thanks to this innovation, the company launched the OE 333 radio receiver in 1926. It was the first under the Loewe brand name, sold in over a million units. In 1931, the company presented the prototype for one of the world's first electronic television sets, designed for mass production, at the International Electronics Fair in Berlin (IFA). Over the years, a series of innovative products with original and well-thought-out designs made the company one of the most prestigious brands in the
hi-tech and audio/video sectors. These include the TV cabinet with integrated FM radio Loewe Optaport (1963); the iconic Loewe Art 1 digital television (1985); Spheros (1998), the world's first customisable television; Loewe Individual (2005); and the new Loewe Art for home entertainment (2014). After the death of Siegmund Loewe in 1964, the company passed to Philips. Today it is part of the Skytec Group Ltd, while its main factory, active since 1950, is in Kronach, Germany.
