In 1974, the Van den Berg brothers founded Montis, whose name comes from the Latin genitive of mons (montis), "of the mountains," echoing the family surname. Based in the Netherlands, the brand produces upholstered furniture, sofas and armchairs, tables and chairs for the complete furnishing of the living area. In the beginning, Montis had only two employees - an upholsterer and a leather tanner. The following year, Montis changed location and moved to Dongen, a town with several tanneries. Eight years later, the company introduced the Jacket technique, an innovative upholstery technique, with zips on metal structures. This innovation soon resulted in the release of the classic Chaplin chair. In the 1980s, the company made its name in Holland, Germany, overseas and in the Middle and the Far East, with vertiginous growth. The necessary move to larger premises allowed Montis to establish its own showroom. Hans Roebers designed an impressive black tile building with the changing natural light creating reflections and defining the spaces. Today, the company continues to innovate to meet the needs of modern life without sacrificing comfort. Thanks to collaborations with world-famous designers and emerging talents, Montis proposes icons destined to become great classics.
Montis sofas and armchairs. Timeless iconic furniture
Montis collections are characterised by authentic and timeless design, well suited to any context from home to office to contract spaces. The Aztec sofa collection comes in a two-seater fabric sofa and a fabric sofa with chaise longue, both with a solid and robust appearance and soft and rounded lines. The stable, flat surface of the backrest and armrests provides a comfortable seat and a suitable surface for a laptop, a stack of books, or a tray. Domino 18 is for people looking for modular seating. In fact, the sofa is made up of several components that can be arranged and rearranged at will. The generous seat is available in different heights and depths and is also equipped with more resistant triangular cushions and an optional wide armrest. Axel is a modular seating system available in various combinations. It boasts upholstered leather or fabric sofas in different shapes and sizes, such as the leather sled sofa, the upholstered fabric sofa, and the upholstered leather sofa with chaise longue. The Dutch designer Arian Brekveld created the Back Me Up collection for Montis; it is a line of upholstered armchairs with armrests, available in fabric or leather. The collection also includes a chair and a bench, which also comes with a backrest. The George armchair designed by Gijs Papavoine offers maximum comfort. The seat and backrest form a flowing line with the headrest and guarantee optimum support in any position; the chair is completed by a light, fixed or swivel base. A comfortable footrest comfort completes the collection.
Chairs, stools and tables for the home and office
Montis also produces chairs, stools, tables and coffee tables for interiors -all marked by careful details and refinement. Vico is a compact dining chair designed by Geert Koster to complement any residential or commercial space.
