40 International Architectural Firms as ADA 2017 Jury

09/11/2017 - With invaluable commitment of a highly qualified jury selected from the state-of-the-art international design the winners for the 2017 edition of the Archiproducts Design Awards. The selection left every jury member in a tight spot. The applied a meticulous analysis and quality evaluation for each of the 600 submitted products.

A jury panel of mainly architects – 40 firms with offices all over the world – together with some of the most acclaimed architecture photographers and the Archiproducts team evaluated the submissions.

Why a jury of architects? Architects are the true judges of the product. They have the skills to study the best solutions and materials for a project.

Mario Bellini: 8-time Compass Award winner, 25 projects at the MoMA and internationally acclaimed. He is one of the most renowned and esteemed Italian architects. Ben Van Berkel, the Dutch architect and founder of UNStudio with offices in Amsterdam, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The architects who reconfirmed their role as jurors for the second edition are: Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan, founder of mk27 studio; Israeli architect Pitsou Kedem, author of a number of important projects in Israel; Benoit Jallon and Umberto Napolitano of the LAN Architecture firm in Paris; Spanish architect Fran Silvestre; Mexican designer Hector Esrawe founder of the Industrial Design course at the Design, Cinema and Television Centre (Centro de Diseño, Cine y Televisión); the Marcante-Testa duo of the UdA Architetti studio; the Spanish Masquespacio firm. And more: the Dutch i29 interior architects; architect Primo Orpilla of the o+a studio who designed the Facebook, Microsoft, Samsung and Levi Strauss headquarters; Vudafieri Saverino Partners; Lazzarini Pickering Architetti and noa* -network of architecture

First time jurors: Benedetta Tagliabue; Piuarch studio in Milan; Japanese architect Satoshi Kurosaki, founder of Apollo Architects and master of “innovative architecture”; Carlo Ratti from Turin, the Italian architect who focused on the impact of digital technologies on design; the Spanish Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectoso firm; Clemens Kusch of the German gmp architekten studio and the multidisciplinary Studiopepe firm from Milan.

Not only architects, but also some of the best international architecture photographers, expressed their favourites. Fernando Guerra – Portuguese, founder with his brother Sergio of Últimas reportagens photography studio, Fernando Alda – Portuguese, co-founder of the Fernando Alda Fotografía photography studio in Spain, young Spanish talent Salva López.

Each of them worked independently on a shared voting platform to indicate their personal idea of Design and Architecture, rewarding the research for innovative formal and material solutions in addition to the ability to define foresee its usage  and concepts within residential and contract contexts.
