12/10/2020 - Light influences emotions and plays a key role in the perception of spaces and objects. Depending on the area of application, it has to fulfill a wide variety of functions. The Artemide 2020 collection overcomes the classic distinction between technical product and design. It surprises with new ways for flexible applications and with the latest technology in the indoor and outdoor area, without neglecting the emotional component.
As part of the 2020 collection, the Ripple suspension system and the flexible La Linea light tube are the latest results of Artemide's successful collaboration with the Danish architecture firm BIG.
The creatives of the Bjarke Ingels Group demonstrate a sense of hedonism and a feeling for the interplay of all factors down to the smallest detail not only in architecture. The luminaires for ARTEMIDE are more than just light sources. In their design, BIG took into account the effect of light on people, plants and the respective space: As a flexible tube of light, La Linea encourages the play of light and the examination of its effect on the environment, both indoors and outdoors. The Ripple luminaire also has a positive effect on the atmosphere of the room by combining light and sound absorption and ensuring good acoustics.
Bjarke Ingels considers all components to be taken into account down to the smallest detail, so that architecture can open up new possibilities for everyday design. The exceptional architect relies on as much input as possible, which develops its own dynamic and thus turns the most utopian idea into reality.
Ripple
Ripple shapes the qualities of space through molecular growth, combining light and sound absorption. Comprised of circular structures in three different diameters, it works through layers of performance that can be modulated as required. The structures can be simple electrical connection elements, unveil 'pure' light or be enriched by a diffuser which, in addition to interacting with the light, offers sound absorption properties. The basic element of the product is a circular ring whose profile is a synthesis of optics and mechanical engineering. The structures are made of an innovative heat-conducting moulded plastic which dissipates heat, allowing high-power LEDs to be used.
Ripple elements can also be combined in increasingly complex customised solutions: from simple lines or geometries of elements with a constant diameter, to compositions that combine different diameters in a more organic and free growth, through to show-stopping, striking solutions.
In addition, the possibility of using the rings as only a connection structure allows spatial distribution of the active elements without creating any waste or excess, focusing light only where it is needed.
Once again, Artemide's project with BIG is guided by a strong idea of interaction with spaces, an open, modular and scalable solution that combines technological innovation with compositional intelligence, translating all this into something apparently simple but striking and full of potential. This freedom of configuration is then mirrored by the flexibility in management granted by interaction with Artemide App.
La Linea
La Linea is a flexible tube of light, capable to freely twist and turn in space according to undefined geometries.
Technological sophistication lies behind the apparently simple design. Using the patented optics, La Linea generates an even and comfortable high-efficiency diffused light without creating shadows. An individual element is 2,5 or 5 metres long, but can be extended by means of joints concealed inside its profile.
The unique combination of light quality, IP protection grade, flexibility and modularity allows individual design - as a minimal presence or expressive graphic element. La Linea turns light into an ideal fixture for outdoor spaces, architectures, parks, or public and urban areas to requalify common spaces, create social and engaging landscapes, and promote relations between people and their surroundings.
When it comes to sustainability, La Linea is at its best thanks to its high-performance LEDs, durability, uncomplicated maintenance and small packaging size.
