Boiserie and Vessels in a Single Bathroom System
07/03/2019 -  Upper, the Boffi project by Piero Lissoni, stems from a single, precise aim: to transform a wall into a system of vessels and shelves. Presented in 2015 as a kitchen plan, over time the project has gained new elements and finishes, and even new target uses: from a kitchen boiserie, Upper becomes Upper Units Bathroom, a wall cladding conceived for the bathroom.

Without disrupting the other spaces of the home, Upper Units Bathroom takes compositional variety to the bathroom by changing up furniture elements and surface materials. The system’s structural complexity resolves into an overall picture of absolute formal order and concision. Only upon closer inspection is the richness of the wall’s materials and compositional elements revealed.

The boiserie system is characterized by a completely customizable structural frame: vessels, two different depths of shelves, niches, mirrors, integrated or countertop washbasins offer the user greater freedom of expression and composition. Moreover the use of precious materials – from graphite oak for the vessels, to stone for the mirrors, to Salvatori white Carrara marble for the boiserie panels – adds luster and personality to the whole project.

Lissoni x Boffi collaborations have always been a source of suggestions for new ideas and configurations: from the tailor-made Boffi_Code program to the modular kitchen system of the Combine collection, and now to Upper’s utterly cross-sectional applicability.
