Bomma: New and Old Collaborations that Break the Mould

05/04/2019 - Euroluce 2019 provides the perfect backdrop for Bomma to present its new collections of hand-blown crystal lighting: Blimp, Pebbles, Pendulum and Lens. The brand also showcases its expansion of the popular Tim, Phenomena, Umbra and Orbital collections.

Based in the Czech Republic, the brand is renowned for blending state-of-the-art technologies with a contemporary design. The new collections are the product of original international collaborations: Swiss designers Big-Game, as well as Boris Klimek and Studio deFORM – the latter made up of Václav Mlynář and Jakub Pollág who also serve as Bomma’s Creative Directors.

Blimp is a massive crystal cloud designed by Big-Game that seemingly floats in space with its inexplicable lightness. Inspired by the skills of the Bomma master-glassmakers, Big-Game designed the Blimp lamp – in the biggest size that can be blown into a mould – as an object that is at once monumental and airy. As individual pieces are nearly one meter high, the production of this monumental lighting is on the edge of both technical and human possibilities.

The designers made sure to highlight the delicacy of the Bohemian crystal craftsmanship and created a whole Blimp family for Bomma. Aside from the three sizes of pendant lighting they added a table and floor version and a wall or ceiling light. The light’s amber color brings a warm ambient feeling into any interior. To emphasize the quality of Czech crystal, Blimp comes also in pure crystal version.

Pebbles, designed by the Prague-based Slovakian designer Boris Klimek, is inspired by the perfectly flat shapes and natural colors of pebbles. Boris Klimek created a whole family of highly variable products consisting of two types of pendants and two types of floor or table lamps.

The Pebbles collection is comprised of an array of different shapes and colors that allow wide range of compositions of individual pieces and therefore provide space for one’s own creativity.

The order of individual crystal pieces, held together by a sophisticated light source bar, can be easily changed anytime so that one lighting system can result in several different compositions.

Emphasis on variability comes also with the Pendulum collection by Studio deFORM. Connectable spheres come in compositions of two, three or five pieces and in four different colors. Therefore, a notable impact on the final design of the lighting lays on the shoulders of the architect or client. This playful yet simply elegant composition benefits from Bomma’s technology of underlay glass.

The Lens collection, also by Studio deFORM, is ideal for use in larger projects. Delicate lens-shaped objects can be multiplied lavishly and bring festive atmosphere to any interior. Lens is available in three color options: crystal clear, white and red.

Apart from the four new collections, Bomma also extends several popular collections from recent years. Phenomena pendants and floor lamps are now available also in smoke; the Orbital and Umbra collections now include table and wall versions; and the iconic Tim collection now has a floor or table version in both crystal clear and smoke color versions.
