27/02/2024 - Is it a Wes Anderson film? An Edward Hopper painting? An imaginary dreamscape? None of the above. It's one of the venues featured in the Diabla Outdoor Catalogue 2024, which explores the topic of making outdoor space habitable. The brand immerses us in the golden years of cinema and its architectural heritage as the setting for a new 'Diabla Attitude' presentation.
The famed Old Daisy Theatre on Beale Street in Memphis was built in 1912. Decorated with intricate details and marquee lights, its entrance, crowned by a half-dome, exudes vintage flair. The opulent venue takes us back to a time when going to the cinema was an event - an escape from reality.
Diabla transforms the theatre's exterior into an urban terrace and amphitheatre populated by some of the brand's collections. For the occasion, the PATOSO seats, designed by Alejandra Gandía-Blasco, are covered in this season's new fabric, inspired by the Commedia dell'Arte and, in particular, by the character of Pantaleone. Red tones and joyful and colourful geometric patterns characterise the textile covering the pouf that has been internationally recognised at the NYCxDesign Awards, the DNA Paris Awards and the Archiproducts Awards.
For this potential outdoor space, Diabla proposes, among the other pieces, the ARP collection by Made Studio, whose cushions are upholstered in the same Commedia dell'Arte Arlequín fabric, contrasting with their white structures. The LILLY armchairs by Democràcia Estudio provide formal balance, while the PLISY UP lamps, also designed by Alejandra Gandía-Blasco, illuminate outdoor spaces with their sophisticated and elegant forms. Inspired by traditional pleated fabric lampshades, Plisy Up combines the best of the lighting world with the latest technology.
