14/05/2023 - From the past to the future of design: District Eight furniture makes its debut at the Salone del Mobile.Milano celebrating tradition and innovation through a living collection with sinuous and robust shapes, designer furniture by Michele De Lucchi, Toan Nguyen and Adam Goodrum.

District Eight, a Vietnamese furniture and lifestyle brand founded in 2010 by Darren Chew, draws on the Asian industrial and craft manufacturing tradition, contaminating it with European influences. The result is reflected in a collection with pure, minimalist lines, created in natural materials, such as solid wood, and sustainable materials, such as metal, leather and stone. At the Salone del Mobile, it debuts its latest collections Inumbra, Stilt, Joss and Collette.

Pure lines that combine historical references, ancient manufacturing techniques and formal experimentation: Michele De Lucchi signs Inumbra, a District Eight furnishing element that reinterprets the classic modular shelving system in a sculptural and imposing way, enhancing the materials and craftsmanship quality of the workmanship.

“In District Eight, I recognize a design attitude that’s very Italian in its approach to high quality products – the result of a perpetual curiosity towards technical possibilities, a deeply rooted humanistic sensibility and a strong innovative undertone,”
says Michele De Lucchi.

Available in different finishes and variants, the District Eight furnishing element designed by Michele De Lucchi allows the use of different materials in a single element.

The seating structure is an explicit tribute to the traditional stilt houses found in northern and central Vietnam. Sofa and armchair are characterised by a shaped wooden base covered in handcrafted leather or fabric. The range of tables available in the District Eight furniture collection features various configurations, including high and low versions with round, square or rectangular tops. In keeping with the collection's inspirational theme, the Stilt bed features tailored finishes and elements in wood and steel, providing an instinctive sense of strength and comfort.

Characterised by a curvature at the top of the solid wood base, the Joss sofa collection pays explicit homage to typical Asian architecture. The curved lines are sinuously reflected in the solid volumes of the seats, backrests and armrests, creating a strong identity and giving the collection a sculptural appearance.

The Joss collection consists of nine individual components, including a daybed and a coffee table, which can be combined to create different combinations.

Collette Collection, designed by Adam Goodrum
A tribute to archetypal woodwork, Collette is the collection designed by Australian designer Adam Goodrum that evokes the softness of a refined French collar. With flowing, sinuous lines that extend harmoniously from the backrest to the armrests and up to the seat, the Collette collection retains the robustness of wood, lending itself well to residential and commercial spaces.
