Snug inspired by the form of the retro beanbag
The Snug’s design intent was to develop a comfortable, low sitting, durable leisure chair for the home and social spaces such as bars, clubs and hotel lounges.

Inspired by the form and beauty of the retro beanbag, designer Dennis Abalos challenged himself to design an organically shaped chair consisting of a single hollow form. Unique, sculptural design and comfortable seating go hand in hand here. It won the 2012 red dot award in the design concepts category.

The story behind the Basket Chair…
The 29-year-old Swiss/Italian designer Gian Franco Legler designed the Basket Chair for The Basket restaurant in Italy in 1951. Legler contracted local basket weavers and locksmiths to manufacture the first 52 chairs.

The Basket Chair quickly became a success, not only in Italy and Switzerland but also in Germany and the United States. In 1953 Gian Franco Legler received the Good Design Award from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York for the Basket Chair. Just as important to him was the encouragement he received from Charles Eames.

Comfort
The strong, highly stackable chair with hand-woven rattan shell is exceptionally comfortable. The great advantage of the fine weaving structure on hot days is that it allows your body to breathe.

The Elementary Chair, now joined by a stool - A minimum of elements…
… a crossed frame, a curved seat and back, working with a minimum of elements to create an elegant and affordable stacking chair. That was McLellan’s* idea when he designed the Elementary Chair. A solid oak frame, laminated oak veneer seat and back in four different colours… The Elementary Chair is now joined by a matching Elementary Stool with a cast aluminium footrest, also
available in the four Elementary colours: white, black, orangyred and natural.

* Before returning to New Zealand, Jamie Mclellan worked as a senior designer to creative visionary Tom Dixon, designing mainly furniture and lightning for the Tom Dixon Brand. Today, Jamie McLellan runs a product and furniture design studio based out of a boat shed just minutes from downtown Auckland, New Zealand.

The objects designed are wide ranging - from lighting to luxury water craft, bicycles to beer taps, furniture to woollen footwear. A consistent set of beliefs and a strong sense of purpose guides every project, each design ultimately becoming an object that those involved are passionate about, want to use and to live with. Clients range from established brands to small, highly innovative start-ups. A strong network of skilled collaborators, craftspeople and manufacturers is critical to the success of all projects and allows this seemingly small design practise to be prolific in its output. The collection of the Australian label Feelgood Designs is new in Europe.
