09/12/2022 - A place that embodies the creative universe of its authors.
Formafantasma opens the doors to its Milan studio/home, an essential and luminous space in a converted workshop that preserves the style and industrial vibe of the original structure, now filled with objects and design experiments, including the new
FFQT taps designed for
Quadrodesign.
Overlooking the courtyard, amid exposed concrete and meticulous details, without excess, is a series of large windows that provide a flood of light for the many plants that populate the space, characterised by light hues and natural grain wood. The space is divided by function, making it possible to perceive what is happening in the next room. Numerous objects designed by the Sicilian-Venetian duo for brands dot the space together with the fruits of their more personal research into materials that have made them famous. These include the FFQT tapware collection by
Quadrodesign.

"Sometimes design is at its most effective when it is at its most subtle. What stands out is the service it provides. The FFQT series aims to be as timeless in its use as it is intuitive and quiet in its presence in the home. Taps are one of the most frequently used objects in daily life. They provide us with our most precious resource: water," said Simone Farresin and Andrea Trimarchi, aka Formafantasma.
The courtyard features the
FFQT free-standing indoor and outdoor shower column, the star of the collection for its innovative design. The steel shaft with the shower head at the end has a series of rings that carry a standard 5/8'' garden hose.

The designers explain this provocation with the spirit of research that always animates their projects, which start from and develop an idea: the archetype of the fountain, enriched with small elements such as tops and a mirror; a material, not as noble as a rubber hose, but within everyone's reach and everyday imagination, which takes on a different identity when incorporated into an evolved project; a material like stainless steel, whose weight lends solidity to the final result. As for the working process, which in the case of steel can only be turned, the designers explain that, rather than seeing this technique as a limitation to the imaginable forms, it was an aid to the voluntary conception of silent objects. "The home is variously full of narrative objects that must be properly balanced to be appreciated. A silent object has absolute values such as durability, respect for the context in which it was conceived and created, and the context in which it will be used. The only thing it must clearly state is how it is to be used. This aspect is particularly evident in the FFQT bathroom and kitchen taps, where the intensity and temperature of the water flow can be adjusted intuitively with a single lever."

A place where an object takes shape and a place where an idea is born. In the case of Quadrodesign and Formafantasma, the shared approach considers the impact of industrial design and production processes on the planet's ecological order, limiting impacts sustainably and responsibly.
From micro- to macro-projects, whether natural or artificial, value content is a requirement and a way of thinking about design. The new
FFQT collection of bathroom and outdoor taps by Quadrodesign is one virtuous example of such value content.
