Geometric Wooden Weaves and Juxtapositions
10/05/2019 - Ethnicraft’s stand at ICFF in New York will color the fair with its characteristic natural hues, and the sophisticated geometric wooden weaves. The solid structures of the brand’s furniture are designed with an attentive consideration of the effects of space and contrasting lines and volumes. The overall effect ranges from dramatic to understated, but consistently brings a balanced presence to any room.

Among the pieces featured at the New York trade show are the Nexus, Mikado, Profile and Facette dining tables, the Mikado coffee table, the Geometric side table, the Bok dining chair to complement the Bok table, the Facette bar stool, the Burung cupboard, the Blackbird rack, and the Stairs column divider.

The subtle transition from shape to shape, reinforced by a spontaneously drawn singular line, merges all elements together. This creates unity and a sense of movement in the Nexus table by Alain van Havre.

With its cascading lines supporting the tabletop, the original design of the Mikado collection creates a natural centerpiece in a room, without becoming overbearing thanks to the natural grace of wood. 'The oval encourages conversation and interaction', says designer Alain van Havre of the oval dining table, while the design 'brings balance to the asymmetrical'.

The design has a delicate and gentle appearance. Each part seems to gently rest on its supporting counterpart and that gives the table a kind of “visual lightness”. However, they all have their purpose, and together form a solid structure.

The defining feature of the Facette dining table, like the Facette chair designed by Alain van Havre, is obtained by alternating geometric shapes. They are placed in different angles, so light can hit each triangular surface differently and give it new direction. The raw essence of geometry that characterizes the series is a tribute to Brutalist architecture.

The striking scultpural appearance of the Facette bar stool might make its welcoming comfort somewhat surprising: 'Comfortably hanging out, that’s the idea behind the Facette bar stool', is how Alain van Havre describes this piece.
