04/06/2024 - The acoustic pod has become a familiar presence in today's more open and flexible offices. Glimakra of Sweden has now expanded its original BuildUp range with two new models. The large acoustic meeting rooms, designed by Swedish design duo Kauppi&Kauppi in 2021, with fabric-covered walls to improve acoustics both inside and out, are now downsized, but their performance is anything but.
The BuildUp Pod R2 is available in two different configurations. The Coupè model, designed for two or more people, has sofas facing each other and a central column table, while Pod Work has a desk and a sofa. The more compact Pod R1 is designed for a single person who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the office to think, relax or engage in a discreet phone call.
Curved in shape with a soft, rounded edge, the BuildUp range has a sleek and minimalist look that allows it to be used in many contexts. Inside, the units are well-lit with integrated LED lighting and are equipped with power sources to run laptops or recharge device batteries, while the walls reduce reverberation time to create a pleasant sound atmosphere. All units are self-supporting, making them easy to build, install or move if necessary.
Designers Kauppi&Kauppi deploy an adaptive and evolutionary design approach, asking how each project contributes uniquely to its context. They have won prestigious awards such as the Swedish Design Awards, the Archiproduct Design Award and three German Design Award Golds.
