The Good design award is the world’s most prestigious, recognized and oldest Design Awards program, founded in 1950 by architects: Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann Jr. For the 2018 edition, a qualified jury consisting of architects, designers, journalists and critics has selected over 900 new products and graphic designs from over 47 countries, rewarding the most striking ones in terms of design, innovation and invention.
The chair SEELA, conceived by the Finnish designer Antti kotilainen, has been launched during 2018’s Salone del Mobile, standing out immediately as an eclectic, innovative and practical design proposal. SEELA was born from the will of the company to integrate their collection with a versatile product for the contract market. Made of a polypropylene shell, this remarkable chair owns a peculiar detail that makes it unique. The unexpected “plus” is given by a wooden insert with rounded profiles, seamlessly following the seat, donating the noble touch of a warm natural material.
The wooden insert can also be used for the upholstered pad in fabric. The chair can be fully upholstered too, characterizing the seat insert in a different material. Its extreme versatility makes it possible not only to configure SEELA exactly as needed by the end-user, but also to easily change some details over the years, thus expanding its lifespan.
The match of two extremely different materials like polypropylene and wood, SEELA’s main feature, tells the DNA of a company which has proved to be distinctive over the years by using noble materials and always searching for new proposals, a perfect blend of artisan skills and technology.
As an extremely eclectic chair whose refined design aims to reach the perfect balance between aesthetics and ergonomics, SEELA allows a wide range of customization. The seat insert, which can be easily removed thanks to four screws, is interchangeable and also available in polypropylene, in addition to wood, to mix and match colors and for outdoor use. SEELA is available with four metal legs, with a sled base or with four elegant wooden legs in various finishes. This versatile chair also offers a great choice of versions with armrests or tablet, with linking system and stacking pad, including a stool variant in two heights.
