Lights in Bloom: Hollis+Morris @ ICFF
07/04/2019 - Hollis+Morris launches its 2019 lighting collection BLOOM at NYC x Design and ICFF with an ethereal forest of light. Founder/designer Mischa Couvrette unveils BLOOM’s Willow and Catkin lights in a mysterious, minimalist design installation. The new contemporary lighting collection is inspired by a blissful vision of nature. BLOOM centers around the visual of the catkin, the familiar bud which appears on trees as the very first sign of spring. After the long winter, the quickly multiplying catkin is nature’s story of vitality and exuberance — a glowing energy hidden within a soft, white bloom. Catkin by Hollis+Morris

At ICFF, Hollis+Morris abstracts this mystery of the natural world into an immersive design installation. Willow floor lamps from the BLOOM Collection rise asymmetrically like a pussywillow appearing from the calm surface of a pond. Willow horizontal and vertical lights are suspended from the ceiling, complemented by glowing clusters of the collection’s Catkin pendant. Mirrored floors, walls and ceilings create ambient spirals and canopies of light which celebrate and inspire.

BLOOM COLLECTION
The first collection in the Hollis+Morris portfolio to investigate the sphere, BLOOM is a series about spacing and scale, perfecting the interplay of materials and the precision of their connections. Willow horizontal lamp by Hollis+Morris

CATKIN
Bloom’s defining feature is its hand-blown glass orb. The playful Catkin pendant, slightly larger than expected, bears a matte, milky surface and is attached to a solid oak stem. The scale of the glowing clusters creates presence and a sense of networked vitality – as though they might sway gracefully with a passing breeze. Willow horizontal lamp by Hollis+Morris

WILLOW
Offering the more dramatic form of a fully budded bough, Catkin blooms are nestled into a solid wood branch, creating Willow’s radical, spiralling silhouette. The soft glow of the milk glass highlights the wood grain and celebrates the naked beauty of oak and walnut. Brass connections disguise the nesting grooves carved into the wood, elevating the piece and adding Couvrette’s signature metal finish.
