As in a Henri Matisse painting, every detail emerges slowly from the space: furnishings elements from the permanent collections – La Musique and Interieur aux aubergines – are in dialogue with decoration items, finding their place in spacious libraries and bringing more and more life to an environment in progress that changes as it captivates the visitor with every glance.
The space is characterized by two predominant elements. In a unique and compelling aesthetic play, the warm nuances of the wood are countered by the ceramics and textile, thanks above all to the decorations adorning the walls and bureau: a powerful reference to Henri Matisse and to his love for this material. Each of the brand’s collections is inspired by the universe of the painter from Le Cateau- Cambrésis, reinterpreted by contemporary designers and produced by renowned artisans with the aim of creating objects that can be held and handed down from generation to generation.
The Parisian store recounts this tradition in a new way, transforming it into a precious experience. The understated alternation of natural and artisanal, wood, textile and ceramics, is an emblematic reference to Maison Matisse’s production and to this harmonious balance between craftmanship and the modern that distinguishes the brand today, as the artist’s output did in the past.
The combination of different colours and materials generates a welcoming space with an optimistic atmosphere, able to engage the visitor in a refined and immersive experience that is far from being a simple purchase, in a «Paris that is still Paris, which is to say something indescribably wonderful»1 as Henri Matisse himself said upon returning from the Riviera. And it was precisely the painter’s strong bond with the city, and the aim to cultivate and nourish that feeling to this day, that led the brand to choose the French capital as the location for its first boutique.
«For us, opening our first shop is a fundamental moment, reflecting a retail strategy long planned by Maison Matisse. With this boutique, we aim not only to establish direct contact with our growing clientele, but above all to have a way to present our products that, given their artisanal nature, deserve to be seen in person so that their uniqueness can be appreciated» said Jean-Matthieu Matisse, the brand’s Founder and President.
