Minimalism, Tactility and Ornament: Chord Collection Grows
01/06/2018 - AlexAllen Studio, Brooklyn based design studio founded in 2013 by Alexandra Burr and Allen Slamic, countinued its reserch in the field of lighting design launching the latest addition to Chord lighting collection, during the last edition of ICFF in New York

'We believe design is about balance, proportion and refinement. We look for the fine line between richness and restraint, minimalism and tactility, austerity and ornament. We feel innovation should also be sensitive to vernacular and tradition. We are constantly exploring new manufacturing methods, technology and materials to make our design smarter, more sustainable, more efficient or more accessible.'

Chord draws inspiration from minimalist jewelry, and its metal finishes and details exude the same refinery and elegance. Light emanates into a void, its source hidden in the simple form of a delineated semi-circle; the atmospheric effect of the light emphasized through this geometry.

The Chord Cluster, the latest member of the Chord collection, is a modern reinterpretation of a familiar form. The elegant semi-circular shapes are reminiscent of the swagging curves of a traditional crystal chandelier. Like its counterparts, Chord and Chord Convoy, the soft glow of light is emphasized by this geometry.

Chord Convoy is an iterative linear arrangement of the singular Chord pendant. Like a group of comrades, Convoy can exist as a pair or be extended to form an endless line of pendants in varying sizes or finishes. The resulting scalloped fixture is an elegant solution for a linear light.
