02/02/2015 - HOWE reintroduces the Munkegaard chair, or Mosquito chair, at this year’s Stockholm Furniture Fair. The distinctive chair is designed in 1955 and has its roots in the Munkegaard School, which Arne Jacobsen designed from 1955-1957.

The Munkegaard chair, also known as the Mosquito chair, is a strong, bold original Arne Jacobsen design that demands attention. Easily stackable and perfectly suited to home or office, it complements any décor, adding distinction, strength and charm, and making the statement of individuality it was always meant to.

We’ve brought a 1950s classic up-to-date, making it greener and tougher than ever before, and making it what is today: a new classic for the 21st century”, explains Sales & Marketing Manager Lars Bruntse.

Green on the inside
HOWE has taken the original Munkegaard chair and added their cutting-edge expertise, thus bringing an already bold and collectable Arne Jacobsen design into the 21st century.

What we’ve created is an environmentally aware chair, one that retains the aesthetics of the original but now has the sustainability that every design today should have”, says Lars Bruntse.

Additionally, HOWE has applied their engineering skills and construction techniques to the chair making it not only sustainable but also tougher and far more durable.

The Munkegaard chair and the Tongue
The successful introduction of the Tongue chair in the spring of 2013 gave us the opportunity for relaunching another Arne Jacobsen classic and we are excited as we see a big sale potential in this chair”, explains Lars Bruntse.

The Munkegaard chair is equally suited for restaurants, corporate canteens, educational and hospitality sectors, giving HOWE the opportunity to strengthen their position further in these market segments.

A new classic
As standard, the chair will be in oak, ash, and walnut veneer as well as stained veneer in black, white, grey, ensian blue, coral, and wine red. The Munkegaard chair is also available with a fixed upholstered seat pad as well as a full-upholstered version in both fabric and leather. The frame comes in chrome or powdercoated in black or white.
