15/03/2024 - Imagine a Marbella far from the tourist glitz, where time slows down and nature reigns. Lush and wild, it would be the ideal setting to tell the story of the
new Baxter outdoor furniture collection designed by
Paola Navone.
Andrea Ferrari's evocative photographs in the new catalogue '
Quaderno di Viaggio: Marbella'
(Travel Notebook: Marbella) blend suggestions, inspirations, and memories, taking us on a journey that immortalises Baxter's outdoor furniture.
“
We’re not tourists. We’re travellers.” These words, taken from Bernardo Bertolucci's film "The Sheltering Sky", opens the
Baxter catalogue entirely dedicated to the Outdoor collections, each of which evokes a place in the world, capturing its essence, exoticism and perfumes.

Humid tropical forests come to life in the
Manila and
Manao seating collections in reed, the light, flexible and sustainable material characteristic of garden furniture.
The
Arizona system, both agile and nomadic, evokes the essence of the desert, while
Panama Bold chairs, with a core of Ocoumè, an exceptionally light and resistant African wood, float like islands in the sea.
The Fellini-esque
Rimini, a place so iconic that it encapsulates the story of summer, celebrates the carefree Italian holiday.

The materials pay homage to the earth itself, blending
natural terracotta,
lava stone, and
Palladiana Green marble with
acid-etched copper,
Philippine rush, and
soft Baxter leather.
Nature-inspired materials are juxtaposed with camouflage patterns and Camo Vert in shades of verdigris, blue and orange. According to Paola Navone, both textures reflect a view of the world,
"an idea of a map that you can look at from afar, like looking at the earth and seeing continents where you can't tell where the water is and where the earth is."

Patterns and colours reflect the bold personality of the Milanese designer, expressed in large, cosy and soft furnishings designed for being together, sharing, and telling stories, but also intrepid and dynamic enough to move outside the comfort zone.
For Baxter, outdoors is a multifaceted concept: the patio, the terrace, the loggia or the poolside, each with specific complexities and relationships between people and space, as well as the performance levels required of the furniture's structures and materials. With the distinction between
Outdoor and
Open Air, Baxter separates the more durable collections intended for exclusively exterior use from a collection that lives outdoors and indoors in a liminal space between interior and exterior - the Open Air. Both are designed to be used inside, as the materials and design harmonise with the indoor collections.

Baxter's furniture collections are an invitation to experience the outdoors in unexpected ways, an idea of conviviality that transcends the boundaries of the classic, daring to explore ever more bold sensory experiences.
