07/03/2018 - Amongst the many new ideas that AERMEC will be presenting at the MCE trade fair, the ones that particularly stand out in the field of hydronic terminals are the Omnia Slim reduced thickness fan coils for residential applications and the new range of FCWI wall-mounting fan coils with inverter fan.

Omnia Slim is an innovative range of fan coils for residential applications, characterised by an exclusive design and extremely reduced thickness (just 129mm). Fitted with a tangential fan and available in both a 3-speed version and a version with brushless motor, the 5 sizes ensure total comfort thanks to the possibility to differentiate the air flow direction depending on the season (upwards in cooling mode and downwards in heating mode, eliminating any stratification effect).

FCWI is the new range of fan coils for wall installation. Compared with the previous range, this one is more extensive (up to 5.1 cooling kW per single unit) and boasts a brushless motor for enhanced acoustic and thermal comfort.

The real innovation, however, lies in the EHT active cold beams - the result of research carried out by AERMEC in collaboration with the most prestigious European universities; painstaking fluid-dynamic studies have led to the creation of an active cold induction beam with pioneering geometry and sizing of the primary air injection nozzles to optimise the induction ratio and the performance of the beam itself. Available in modules with a width of 600mm and 8 different lengths (from 900mm to 3000mm), the EHT cold beams can easily be integrated in the false ceiling of a room.

The characteristics and performance of the cold beams (low sound level thanks to the absence of moving parts, high hygiene standards thanks to easy cleaning and maintenance, total comfort because air distribution is facilitated by the Coanda effect) are enhanced by the construction features of these terminals, which are especially suitable for applications with a low latent cooling load in the tertiary sector and healthcare facilities.

Always attentive to air quality requisites in indoor contexts, AERMEC is extending its range of high-efficiency heat recovery units with the new RTD thermodynamic unit.

It's an air exchange unit fitted with highly efficient thermodynamic recovery via the integrated cooling circuit with inverter compressor, that guarantees energy savings and accurate delivery temperature control, making it the ideal solution for integration with direct expansion or hydronic systems. Available in 6 sizes with nominal flow rates from 1100 cubic m/h to 3200 cubic m/h, and suited to a variety of applications.

In the sphere of system machines (chillers and heat pumps), the new range of NRB chillers (for cooling capacity levels from 56 kW to 209 kW) joins the selection of air-water machines. Different versions are available, with varying efficiency and sound levels, but all these machines are distinguished by their low sound emissions and extremely high seasonal efficiency. The high seasonal performance standards are the result of a precise cooling circuit design and the use of innovative components such as optimised scroll compressors for first-class seasonal efficiency, and the copper/aluminium condensation coils with reduced diameter pipes, purposely designed to maximise heat exchange and reduce the amount of refrigerant needed. Thanks to their notable seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER and ηsc), these machines are already compatible with the challenging efficiency targets that will be imposed by European Regulation 2281/2016 as of 2021.

In addition, they have the benefit of an optimised ventilation management logic (floating HP) and a Night Mode function that reduces the sound power thanks to fan modulation time bands selected by the user.

For the water-water machines, the major innovation lies in the WRK and WWB ranges of heat pumps for high temperatures.
The reversible water-water heat pumps (refrigerant side) of the WRK range, for indoor installation, cover a spectrum of heating capacity levels from 38.9 kW to 165.9 kW, and a processed water temperature of 65°C.  This means they're a valid alternative to traditional boilers for centralised heating systems with high-temperature terminals such as existing radiators, and for the production of domestic hot water. With its steam injection scroll compressor, this circuit ensures that extensive operating limits and very high constant and seasonal efficiency values (ηsH up to 195% with an average water temperature of 55°C) can be reached, so WRK is the perfect solution not only for new constructions but also when the aim is to increase the efficiency of existing systems.

The WWB water-water heat pump for heating-only applications, on the other hand, is ideal when hot fluid at two temperature levels (low/medium temperature and high temperature) is needed. Consisting of two cooling circuits (non-invertible), this heat pump has one compressor for each circuit, optimised for heating at very high temperatures; it comes in 8 sizes and covers a heating capacity range from 50 kW to 220 kW. Usually used in cascade format with a heat pump or multifunction unit, it takes full advantage of the higher efficiency level of the standard machine for the production of low/medium temperature water for winter air conditioning with a radiant floor or fan coil.

Furthermore, a part of the thermal energy of high and extremely high temperature water (up to 80°C) is transferred to heating circuits for radiators or for the preparation of domestic hot water. It's ideal for hotel structures, multi-purpose facilities and the industrial environment. In terms of originality, the WWM modular water-water machine is perfect for places where technical space, transportability and positioning are the most critical aspects for the system designer and installer. It comes in one single size - 96 cooling kW and 109 heating kW - with the possibility to connect up to 36 units with various configurations (superimposed for max. 2 levels), and with features that ensure quick, simple interconnection between the modules from both the hydraulic and the electric viewpoint. Another detail that can't be overlooked is the easy access for maintenance on the individual modules, and user-friendly system management thanks to the advanced AERMEC MULTICHILLER EVO system.

One of the top power machines that deserves a mention is the water-water chiller with centrifugal compressors and tube core exchangers - the WTX. With versions offering power levels up to 1950 kW, this range guarantees extremely high efficiency levels (SEER up to 9.38 and ηsC up to 367.1%), thanks also to the use of the innovative tube core exchangers flooded with a spray system, which ensure a reduced refrigerant load and higher efficiency values compared with traditional flooded heat exchangers.

The other new items on show at the AERMEC stand at MCE include the new HMI chiller in an air-water monobloc heat pump for residential applications (available with power levels up to 16 kW), characterised by the use of R32 refrigerant with a low GWP.
The use of R32 is also a feature of AERMEC's new SLG range of split system units that will join the other innovations in the section given over to direct expansion, such as the MVAM HR VRF free-heating systems that allow places with contrasting sign loads to be served simultaneously, and free-heating thanks to the 3-pipe technology.
