11/03/2025 - From large-scale installations to immersive journeys, the events of Porta Venezia at Fuorisalone 2025 explore the language of design as a vehicle for deconstruction as well as cultural and social discourse. For its third edition, the Porta Venezia Design District, running from April 7 to 13 during Milan Design Week 2025, will turn the area into a dynamic, ever-evolving landscape where historical layers merge with contemporary visions in an ecosystem of ideas and design.

The experience begins in the Porta Venezia bastions with TOILETPAPER's site-specific installation in collaboration with Prima Assicurazioni. It then moves on to Google's large intervention, brand collaborations with international artists and designers such as Marcantonio with Škoda Auto, Juliana Lima Vasconcellos with Lavazza, Stephen Burks for Calico Wallpaper, Matteo Cibic for Fondazione Luigi Rovati, Finemateria with Park Associati. These are the must-see events in Porta Venezia during Fuorisalone 2025.

Porta Venezia Design District 2025: No Boundaries Design. To Create, one must first question everything

For the 2025 edition, the Porta Venezia Design District presents No Boundaries Design. To Create, one must first question everything. In an age when the boundary between physical and digital reality is dissolving, when the boundaries between art, science, technology and nature are constantly renegotiating, design is an act of radical questioning, a field of tension between what exists and what could exist.
No Boundaries Design is not just a theme, but a manifesto: to create, one must first question everything.

Porta Venezia Design District 2025: No Boundaries Design. To Create, one must first question everything

Inspired by the visionary legacy of Eileen Gray, that rejected clear-cut categorizations between art, design and architecture, No Boundaries Design breaks down disciplinary barriers to redefine the role of the contemporary designer: no longer a mere performer of functions, but an activator of questions, a builder of narratives, an explorer of hybrid spaces.
Through innovative installations, materials and processes, the exhibition narrative translates Gray's thinking into experience: the object is never static, the space is never definitive, the user is never passive.

TOILETPAPER by PRIMA ASSICURAZIONI

For the first time the district is dressed by PRIMA ASSICURAZIONI, as Main Partner, which for the occasion collaborates with the visionary creative studio TOILETPAPER enveloping the entire district with the iconic snake pattern. An out-of-the-ordinary participation that connects different worlds by breaking down all boundaries. The artistic intervention will reinterpret urban spaces starting from the famous Bastioni di Porta Venezia through the recognizable and impactful visual language of TOILETPAPER's iconic snakes to represent the tale of a fast and dynamic reality that “changes skin” but remains consistent with itself.

Also at the MEET Digital Culture Center - which reconfirms itself as the district's headquarter - where Realia by Sabrina Ratté, a visual artist from Québéc, will be on display, technology and biology, two seemingly distant realities, come together to redefine our relationship with the environment, offering a unique sensory and conceptual experience in synergy with HAIKI+. A journey between nature and artifice, memory and future, in search of new ways of inhabiting and imagining the world.

The tech giant GOOGLE, inside Garage 21, with Making the Invisible Visible sheds light on art and design as acts of alchemy that bring ideas to life, a project co-created by Google's Chief Design Officer of Consumer Devices, Ivy Ross, and her design team in collaboration with light and water artist Lachlan Turczan, which aims to show how abstract ideas are translated into tangible forms. Light, typically a fleeting presence, takes on a material permanence, transforming into something that can be touched, inhabited, and felt. Light bends, flows, or solidifies into structured planes, responding with fluid dynamism.

Driven by curiosity, Škoda Auto transforms exploration into an immersive experience, brought to life through the creativity of Italian artist Marcantonio. In the courtyard of PAC, Milan’s Pavilion of Contemporary Art, sculptures, and technology merge to transform the space into a dreamlike landscape. A fantastic road trip unfolds through suspended paths, symbolic creatures, and poetic landscapes, where animal and nature-inspired statues metaphorically embody the essence of the new all-electric Elroq. These dynamic installations, enhanced by exciting technology, bring the car’s characteristics to life through emotion and discovery.

Lakapoliesis (2024) is a project that redefines the traditional relationship between animals and plants, reversing its anthropocentric perspective. Inspired by the illustrated maps of Alexander Humboldt and the writings of Jagadish Chandra Bose and Monica Gagliano, Cibic creates large-format, three-dimensional chromatic maps and vegetal compositions, aspiring to describe the emotions and sentiments of the plant world. Protagonists of the exhibition are wood sculptures, recycled aluminium, marble dust and knotted wool, giving form to a new “vegetal nomenclature" through an original and asymmetrical narrative. In the garden, two large-format, recycled-aluminium sculptures – created with the support of the CIAL (National Aluminium Packaging Consortium) – tell the story of the immortality of this material and its capacity for rebirth in a multiplicity of forms. Alongside these new works, the exhibition in the Art Pavilion includes an excerpt from Dermapoliesis (2017).

Vanadio23, a Milan-based artist and designer, presents P0RN0 ROMANTIKO, an installation that plays with the boundaries between innocence and provocation, between the visible and the hidden. The exhibition consists of a series of miniature ceramics, displayed within glass cases. The images painted on them are only revealed through a magnifying glass—an essential tool to unveil the most intimate and unsettling details of the works. At first glance, the depicted scenes seem to take inspiration from traditional rural and pastoral iconography. However, upon closer inspection, hyper-realistic details loaded with erotic tension emerge, merging aesthetics and provocation in a visual and emotional short circuit.

Galerie Zippenfenig brings the Viennese design scene to Milan. As the first independent show for new Austrian design during the Salone del Mobile 2025, VIENNA VIBES opens up a multifaceted perspective on a design movement that is going its own way with a drive for independence. “The exhibition focuses on a wide variety of young, creative trends from Vienna, between readymade and elaborate arts and cra6s, with a penchant for the ornament in the tradition of Art Nouveau to its complete rejection, but always in the struggle with its own Viennese identity,” explains gallery owner Markus Zippenfenig.
