09/06/2020 - The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies announced the awarding of the prestigious prize GREEN GOOD DESIGN 2020 to VEIL® washbasin produced by Scarabeo.
The GREEN GOOD DESIGN is the twelfth special edition of the GOOD DESIGN® Awards program that gives a prize to the best 100 products in the field of design, graphics, architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning characterized by a “green approach” and sophisticated methods and technologies in order to achieve a positive impact on the environment. The GREEN GOOD DESIGN identifies the most important examples and implements an intense program to raise the awareness of the general public towards stakeholders who are committed to sustainable design.
VEIL® is the innovative washbasin designed by Massimiliano Braconi for Scarabeo. It is ultra-thin and barely visible. Its 8cm thickness is the ultimate achievement in the size of ceramics, defining the border between possible and impossible. VEIL® is the result of a high-sustainability production process that employs energy generated by photovoltaic installations and completely recycles the water used in the ceramic working process. In addition, waste is regenerated and used for future processing.
Giampaolo Calisti, CEO of Scarabeo, said: “We have been always very attentive to sustainability. In recent years, because of our commitment to convert our company into a production facility with a positive impact on the environment, we have invested in resources and research in order to develop an eco-sustainable production process and reduce the environmental impact by over 60%. VEIL® is a significant example of a product with a high content of research and design that is manufactured in a 100%-green context.”
Starting from July 1, until August, the 100 “green” projects that were awarded the GREEN GOOD DESIGN 2020 will be exhibited at the Museum of the European Centre, Contemporary Space Athens (74 Mitropoleos Street, Athens, Greece).
