Sobriety, Rigour and Experimentation. The New Porro Collection

 

The never-ending research efforts on shapes, materials and technologies, performed side by side with its Art Director, Piero Lissoni, result in new evolutions of the modular systems, that are increasingly becoming true living space architectures. From the electrification that is embedded in the system, thus entirely eliminating wires and making light the protagonist, to the development of special mechanisms that allow doors to move and close – turning into doors to secret rooms and backstage – up to the introduction of new materials: this year’s research focuses on utmost flexibility and visual purity, for unique and unrepeatable bespoke solutions to be designed every time with the end customers according to their individual and personal desires.

New in the Porro catalogue are the Glide sliding doors, large custom-made wings characterised by a metal L-shaped profile painted in black, white or cuvée, that provides a frame to other materials. From the clarity of transparent, smoke or reflex glass, enclosed by a graphic profile with the detail of the applied handle, to the warmth of wood – Porro’s preferred material, which allows to design large single-material walls with a built-in handle by selecting one’s favourite wood type, up to the full colour of Porro glossy and matt lacquers, without forgetting the melamine finishes that combine high resistance and refined textures and ensure perfect uniformity even to the widest and most articulated compositions. Different solutions to choose from or combine together in evocative overlaps, for a transformative and permeable home that follows the changes in lifestyles and relationships, combining taste and innovation.

Geometric allure and retro-styled design are the key elements of the new Romby armchair by GamFratesi, with its abstract charm. The truncated cone base in solid ash wood, natural or black stained, whose flared shape is obtained through slices made with great cabinet-making skills, is connected to a soft and compact padded swivel seat covered in leather and fabric. Perfect in a dining room or in a working environment with a cosy atmosphere, as well as a stand-alone element, Romby is a cocoon armchair with impeccable proportions and workmanship, which embraces the body while leaving it free to move, enveloping it with a feeling of great lightness. A project that fits perfectly into the Porro universe, which has always been characterised by minimalist designs and great craftsmanship.

Piero Lissoni takes up a contemporary classic from the Porro catalogue, the Materic table designed in 2017, and freely reinterprets its key concept – the combination of 2 geometric shapes made of different materials. The table changes its look thanks to an upside-down assembly, where the solid ash typically used for the base is now used for the top – a dark textured surface interrupted only by the flush tray in the middle. The conical base is skilfully made of metal, burnished brass or stainless steel, resulting in an extraordinary visual impact in-between glamour, industrial and futurist look. An array of possible combinations that Materic seems to be able to reproduce endlessly, revealing the evocative power of materials and the brand’s ability to process them.

Resulting from the transformation of the Curry daybed presented in 2018, the new Curry sofa with reduced depth is ideal in a lobby, in a waiting area or to play with several models placed next to each other to create independent islands for relaxation. Featuring a geometric matrix, with a trapezoidal shape, it draws inspiration from the East: the structure in solid black stained ash becomes the frame for the backrest in black dyed woven straw – a perfect combination of design and craftsmanship that reveals the essence of the new Porro 2020 creations.

Designed for the living area, with its eye-catching black-stained hemlock surface and the special inverted T-shaped metal foot, the Left board combines minimalist shapes with sophisticated details, for a versatile, universal item.

Slim but very robust, the Pascal table adapts its look to suit the personal taste of those who choose it for their home, a restaurant or an office. Already presented in wood and cement, with the new top in Sahara noir marble contrasting with the industrial wing structure in die-cast aluminium, it shows its luxurious soul while remaining loyal to Porro’s minimalist style and contemporary look.

Fascinating lifestyles, special finishes, concrete emotions: Porro brings its very personal style to the bedroom as well. A textile bed with an intimate and compact shape, Byron consists of 3 elements: the padded bed frame slightly raised from the floor, the soft headboard cushions where you can linger reading before falling asleep, and the screen at the bottom of the bed that seems to embrace the space and protect the rest. The lines are soft, the edges rounded, with the sophisticated detail of the screen with a black-stained solid ash frame that encloses a straw weave featuring a graphic black and white houndstooth pattern, in a balance between contemporaneity and memory, concrete and abstract.

Housing sculptures, molecular shapes, paper geometries, abstract paintings, books with textured coverings: exquisite props designed by Elisa Ossino and made by laboratories chosen for their social and environmental sustainability. From the clothes for the wardrobes made by the Alice cooperative, which runs tailoring workshops inside the San Vittore prison in Milan with the aim of re-integrating women in need, to the wooden objects made by Cometa, which involves children with more or less severe disabilities, to the vintage objects of the Orizzonti cooperative for the employment of people with mental distress. With the new styling set every single object is the result of an aesthetic choice, but also of a reflection on today and tomorrow.
