Swedese - Nordic design lands in Milan
08/05/2014 - At the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, Swedese displayed its brand new products that they will still be used in 60 years. What do they say, and how can they change a room? Who will use them? And by the way: that broom, is it a piece of art or a cleaning tool?

Well, who knows better than you? Swedese has no idea how the world will look in 60 years. But this they do know: their future is (as always) about improvement, development and refinement. Making comfort more comfortable, beauty more beautiful, and sparkles even more sparkling. Producing items that are gentle on the eyes, hand, body – and the planet.

From this perspective Swedese brought its new products to the latest edition of the Salone del Mobile designed by GamFratesi, Leila Atlassi/Wingårdhs, Broberg & Ridderstråle, Claesson Koivisto Rune, Staffan Holm, and Roger Persson.

New to the 2014 collection:
Grace, designed by Staffan Holm. It was a natural choice to call Staffan Holm’s graceful chair Grace! Staffan Holm is an award-winning designer and furniture maker who gave this wooden chair a brilliant construction: half of the backrest is in front of the back legs, while half is behind them, imbuing the chair with comfort and character. Grace can be stacked and is available in beech, ash, and oak.

Madison, designed by Leila Atlessi/Wingårdhs. A sofa that looks as it was made for an office on Madison Avenue, and that is already on its way out into the world. Leila Atlessi of architecture firm Wingårdhs designed the sofa for Volvo’s new display concept – and it is “made by Sweden”. In fact, it’s completely Swedish in both design and production. The sofa comes in one size with three base options: an oak base or a base of metal runners – either square or round shaped. The back cushions are also available in three options: with no buttons, two big buttons, or eight small buttons.

Baffi, designed by GamFratesi. Is the mustache-like broom by Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi a work of art or a cleaning tool? Maybe home chefs can use it to fight off guests trying to steal a bite from the pot? Either way: Baffi is a broom with humor and esprit, to hang on the wall and to talk about. It is constructed from a laminated oval loop, which comes in beech, white, or black. The brush is expertly made in Italy of the finest, soft horsehair.

Manga, designed by GamFratesi. Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi designed the highly extolled Cartoon easy chair for us. Now Cartoon is getting a high-backed sister called Manga – and it, too, has an unforgettable expression of form.

Caravelle, designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune. The essentially organically shaped Caravelle shell chair has a distinct expression of form, but is suited to every imaginable environment. It is available with or without armrests, and with or without upholstery. Designed in natural ash, natural oak, or with white or black lazur. Chrome, white, or black base.

Kite low and Kite foot stool, designed by Broberg & Ridderstråle. Easy-going in its expression, and named after kite-surfing kites. Broberg & Ridderstråle’s chair now comes in a low version and a foot stool (which fits the high easy chair). The design consists of black or light gray net stretched over a steel frame. The basic design can be upgraded with a headrest, armrests, and upholstered seat and back. The easy chair is on our recycled, die-cast aluminum five-star swivel base in polished clear, white, or black lacquered finish.

Norma, designed by Roger Persson. Roger Persson is Swedese’s bestselling contemporary designer. His organically curved swivel chair with foot stool, timeless design, and superb comfort now has a more stable cross base in chrome, black, or white. The chair can be tilted backwards with an elegant metal lever. It can be upholstered in fabric or in Elmo Soft leather.
