07/03/2019 - A bathtub conceived to meet the new needs of modern living, but with a nod to Eastern traditions: this is the particular insight with which Neri&Hu created the Immersion project for Agape.

Their insight was the fruit of careful observation of behaviors and habits in the city where Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu live and work: Shanghai, one of the world’s most dynamic and lively capitals. This melting pot of cultures is the perfect laboratory to understand how home living is evolving in the world. The Chinese metropolis, with its strong population density growth, offers ever-smaller dwellings and living spaces, which do not allow for the installation of traditional bathtubs.

Immersion’s compact shape and increased depth occupies a smaller surface compared to normal bathtubs. The minimalist and calibrated design re-interprets traditional Eastern wooden tubs, and the upright posture which the bathtub invites recalls the experience of the onsen thermal bath centers.

The posture of bathing is more upright rather than reclined, but the added depth allows a full immersion of the entire body for deep relaxation, while also enjoying the steam as it rises off the water surface.

As an accompaniment to the Immersion Bathtub, the Immersion Basin is similarly inspired by traditional timber bathing vessels used in Japan and China. The basin is available in countertop and freestanding version.
The soft matte white Cristalplant® biobased bowl features a thin edge with a modern straight outer profile and half-spherical inner profile. Both versions of the basin, like their counterpart bathtub, have a small footprint and are designed with the confined living spaces of urban dwellings in mind.

The collection is completed by a multifunctional accessory made of solid wood. Ascension is an accessory made of iroko wood with visible joints on the sides, the Immersion bench is a simple yet versatile object that, thanks to its ingenious geometry, offers two different functions depending on its position: horizontally it becomes a small step for the Immersion bathtub, while, if placed vertically, it doubles as a handy side table for your everyday objects.
