10/05/2012 - The Varaschin collection for the 2012 Salone del Mobile is housed in the Pavillion with checkerboard walls made of gray, marbleized Alacrite - inspired by the Eames’ ESU designs - which alternate crowded and empty spaces in homage to our philosophy dedicated to the nexus of indoor and outdoor furnishings.

The interior space is subdivided by Comb bookshelves, designed by Christoph Radl, their whiteness in direct contrast to the laminated gray cement floors.  Once again, the design for our stand at Rho Pero was created by Martino Berghinz, who envisioned an open space with minimalist touches that expressively highlights the variety of natural materials on display and the quality of our distinctive woven craftsmanship, not to mention our vision of the home space as a single unit, where no distinction is made between indoor and outdoor furnishings.

Varaschin’s quest is to produce design pieces that bring the sensation of the outdoors inside your home through the process of weaving, a technique that has become our mark of excellence, and which the company has elaborated with the most diverse materials possible.  Varaschin’s know-how with fibers such as midollino and rattan comes from years of experience, and has been enhanced by the use of other materials such as cord and synthetic bands.

At the same time, outdoor materials such as thermal-treated wood have come to be used as interior elements that lend a freshness to indoor living spaces that is characteristic of open-air environments like Mediterranean verandas, while our furniture designed for outdoor use can be moved seamlessly inside, thanks to its versatility in lightness and comfort.

The Indoor and Outdoor exchange roles and meld into a single space without boundaries: a space in which you pass long hours dedicated to yourself and your closest friends and family.  The outdoors becomes an extension of the living area: furniture that finds its aesthetic and functional purpose in its woven elements; unique materials that bring everything into sharp relief. The interior spaces, on the other hand, open out toward nature and express that typically Mediterranean airiness of sun-drenched patios.

Lining up next to its traditional Home design catalogue, Varaschin also makes its best pieces available through Contract, a sector that our company believes in more and more, and which offers products that have been designed expressly for suppliers.

Grid, design Kensaku Oshiro
The exactitude of Oshiro’s Japanese origins are highlighted in the Grid family of upholstered furniture: a series of versatile, contemporary modular structures - all available with or without a housse - for in or outdoors.  The backs and seats are formed by a single shell of wire, interlaced into small squares, a structural choice that becomes a distinctive graphic element in a sofa that weds lightness and style.

The grid-like structure supports simple, comfortable seat and back cushions made of pure linen. A cushioned pouf, with a housse and structural cushion made in pure gray linen that cover the metallic structure, completes the ensemble, creating an informal, Mediterranean-style upholstery.  The Grid family is complemented by a side table that emphasizes design by leaving the metallic white grid visible.
