The new "The Syntax of Making" by Fornasetti

23/05/2023 - 'The syntax of making' is the name of the three new Fornasetti home furnishing and accessory collections, made with shapes and decorations that express the uniqueness of the Atelier's savoir faire. Traditional craft techniques and artistic language meet in the 'syntax of making' from which creations are born that transform the corners of the home into microcosms.' "The value of making things by hand - explains Barnaba Fornasetti, Fornasetti Artistic Director - has acquired a deep meaning for me over time. It goes beyond technique and the desire to preserve a firm and coherent identity. It is a choice and a way of being today, in our modern world, an ethical line that puts people and what they make at the centre of everything. Craftsmanship is a conscious way of working, fuelled by a dynamic creativity, which embodies the extraordinary capacity to continuously combine abstract knowledge and experience: what I like to call 'thinking with the hands'." 

Wooden cabinets and bedside cabinets are characterised by their small dimensions and new shapes. Characterised by multiple facets that form a prism on which the colours and silver reflections of the decorations stand out, they are reminiscent of the surfaces of a precious stone. The furnishings and porcelain complete the Fornasetti furniture and accessories proposal. Favoured by Fornasetti for their distinctive convex shape, the mirrors in the new collections are offered with a surface in classic, convex and bubble versions, which further accentuate the optical effect of distortion. The trays, offered in metal, wood and porcelain accommodate the new decorations like artist's canvases: "Giro di Conchiglie" with a three-dimensionality of the marine-themed images, with an evocative trompe l'oeil; "Giardino Settecentesco" with fantastic landscapes and buildings in neoclassical style; "Musciarabia con rose", where the geometric rigour and black stroke typical of Fornasetti are softened by the pink of the flowers, applied by hand by the painters.

With 'The syntax of making' Fornasetti pays homage to its heritage through an installation created in the brand's Milan store during Milan Design Week. On this occasion, Fornasetti allowed visitors to discover some of the main techniques and inspirations that lead to the creation of an Atelier object.
