09/01/2023 - The sixty-first edition of the Milan Furniture Fair returns from the 18th to the 24th of April, 2023, after four years of pandemic-induced modifications. The event will inaugurate some significant changes. Here are some previews of 2023 Salone del Mobile.

A real revolution for Euroluce, with a new exhibition format and substantial rethinking of the fair experience that will integrate business and culture in a rich schedule of exhibitions and events.

A new format for Euroluce 2023

Inspired by the idea of urban proximity, the new Euroluce layout is designed by Lombardini 22 studio. A ring circuit will replace the standard grid-like layout. The single route will not penalise any exhibitor since everyone will have the same visibility.

Common areas are designed for a break "so that a visit to the fair is not a tour de force but a journey of discovery," explains the President of Salone del Mobile, Maria Porro. These spaces will host exhibitions, installations and interdisciplinary events on topics ranging from architecture to art.

A rich educational programme curated by Beppe Finessi will call upon important international artists and emerging talents. Simone Farresin and Andrea Trimarchi of the Formafantasma studio will transform the main Euroluce public space into an ideal city.

"This team effort," comments Maria Porro, "will transform Euroluce into a great visitor experience, making it possible to get to know and touch top-quality products and delve into topics relating to the world of lighting. The high-quality cultural programme targets buyers, professionals and the entire design community. It will be a dialogue between technology and poetry, architecture and design - a source of inspiration and enrichment for the visitor. In this light," Porro concludes, "it is interesting that some companies specialising in technical products have accepted the challenge of participating in the Fair."

The 2023 Salone del Mobile will be on one level

Another major innovation this year is that the Salone del Mobile exhibition space will unfold on a single level and no longer on two as in the past. This change will optimise the visitor journey and use of space. This decision partly stems from the absence of furniture manufacturers who, compared to the more structured international brands, are suffering from increases in energy costs and difficulties in procuring raw materials, a condition manifested in the fair's visitor numbers; 2022 closed with a growth of 8%, a result that, although encouraging, is not as high as 2021, which recorded a rise of 14%.

The new Euroluce layout is an experiment that anticipates possible future evolution for the overall trade fair format, with a proactive and vibrant approach that will be fundamental in facing a 2023 that, in the words of FederlegnoArredo president Claudio Feltrin, "promises to be very uncertain".

Euroluce 2023 will be a kind of experimental space as the first step towards possible future innovations.
