Restoring a historic Apulian residence with Ottostumm | Mogs systems

In Puglia, in the picturesque town of Selva di Fasano, a magnificent 19th-century palazzo comes back to life after an extensive renovation that lasted nearly three years. The building, a historic residence of the Colucci family from whom it takes its name, was purchased in 2022 by two couples of creative professionals.
Rolf and Mette Hay, founders of the renowned furniture and interior decor brand Hay, together with their friends Martin Werner, a celebrated Danish director, and his wife Barbara “Bibi,” owner of one of Copenhagen’s most iconic luxury boutiques, fell in love with this place and decided to give a unique soul to Villa Colucci.

The restoration of the building, entrusted to architect Francesco Mastrorosa, preserved the precious original features of the period — such as the original floors, the staircase connecting the two levels, and the historic plasterwork — while integrating contemporary elements into this evocative setting, including steel window and door frames on the ground floor.
Works of art, designer furniture, and reclaimed pieces gracefully furnish the 478 square meters of interior space, creating a colorful, welcoming, and eclectic atmosphere. For the restoration work, the architect prioritized the use of local craftsmen, finding original solutions to preserve the building’s distinctive charm and its original allure.

Doors, windows, and balconies were removed and restored. On the upper floors, the original wooden frames were preserved, while for the ground floor openings, custom-made steel frames by Ottostumm | Mogs were installed, featuring slim and minimal lines.
A combination that perfectly complements the villa’s style, blending seamlessly with the building’s original lines while also ensuring high performance in terms of security and thermal-acoustic insulation. For this project, the thermally broken W40 and W75 TB systems were selected — both part of the iconic FerroFinestra collection, a hallmark of the Italo-Swiss company’s distinctive style.

FerroFinestra W40 authentically revives the style that, with its clean and elegant lines, left an indelible mark on architecture starting in the early 20th century. Together with the Stucco line and W20, FerroFinestra W40 is the only system on the market that still uses the original hot-rolling manufacturing technique introduced in the late 1800s.
It comes in a complete range of thick steel profiles that ensure exceptional strength, and allows for the creation of large glazed surfaces with ultra-slim frames, suitable for all types of openings.
The FerroFinestra W75 TB system retains the minimal design of the FerroFinestra collection while offering outstanding thermal insulation. It features both flush and overlapping aesthetics, an efficient polyamide insulating core, and profile designs that accommodate the latest selective insulating glass units.
The W75 TB system thus meets the needs of the most demanding projects, for all types of frames requiring the highest aesthetic and performance standards. Available in pickled steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, and Cor-Ten steel.
