Plank is a historic Italian company, which - today, like yesterday - produces chairs, tables, and stools for indoor and outdoor use that combine technology and design without overlooking environmental sustainability and new trends. Plank is a symbol of Made in Italy success distinguished by its original use of materials and its many collaborations with international artists. Started in a small town in Bolzano, the company has become a leader on the global scene. Among the company's productions are chairs, tables, and stools for residential use, and office chairs and contract furniture for modern offices and workplaces.
Chairs, tables, stools: Plank design
Plank's history began in 1953 in Ora, a mountain village in the province of Bolzano. From the beginning, the company focused on the integration of technology with interior design. Plank's recent collections range from stools and armchairs to lounge seating, tables, and chairs. This wide variety makes Plank products particularly valued in projects for residential, cultural, hospitality, and contract spaces. Respect for the environment, research into technological solutions, and continuous work on design innovation are the hallmarks of a company whose name has been synonymous with quality and avant-garde construction. The Plank philosophy underpins products that immediately capture public attention thanks to the intelligent use of materials. Metal structures are combined with colorful fabrics, while smart and flexible table systems easily adapt to both residential and workplace settings. In recent years, Plank has focused on enhancing its image by participating in important events in the design sector - like the Salone del Mobile in Milan - and by sponsoring conventions and exhibitions.
Plank and the international partnerships
Over the years, numerous designers have tied their name to Plank. In 2008, German designer and exhibition curator Konstantin Grcic, head of his Munich-based firm founded in 1991, created the award-winning Myto chair, which won the Compasso d'Oro in 2011. The Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa, a multifaceted and brilliant artist who received the title of Honorable Royal Designer for Industry from the Royal Society of Arts in the United Kingdom in 2007, actively collaborates with Plank to create stools, chairs, and lounge chairs. Biagio Cisotti and Sandra Laube, who founded Studio Cisotti Laube in 1992, have produced tables, coffee tables, and chairs for the brand. Plank's collaborations also include a multi-year partnership with Claudio Bellini, resulting in the Mon Ami armchair. Founder of Atelier Bellini, the Milanese designer has collaborated for years with firms around the world, receiving prestigious prizes like the Compasso d'Oro Selection, awarded four times.
Awards and recognitions for Plank
Over the years, Plank's creations have obtained numerous prizes. Konstantin Grcic's Myto, a plastic cantilever seat for indoor and outdoor use, won the XXII Compasso d'Oro ADI Award. Great recognition also came during the IF Product Design Award - Gold selection for the Miura stool. Ideal for indoor and outdoor use, the polypropylene stool has a slender appearance, can be stacked and is available in various colors. Both products are in the permanent collections of some of the world's most important museums, like the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Design Museum in London, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Plank recently made headlines at NeoCon in Chicago with its award-winning Land lounge chair, a plastic chair available in various colors.
