The Papilio Shell chair was designed by Naoto Fukasawa for B&B Italia in 2015.‎ The name and shape are inspired by a butterfly (whose Latin name is, in fact, "papilio"): inspired by the lightness of their flight and the shape of their multicoloured wings, Fukasawa created a shell that is welcoming, comfortable and ergonomic.‎ The shell of the chair is available in two versions: in polypropylene or padded with cold-flexible polyurethane foam and then upholstered.‎ In the latter case, you can choose from a wide range of fabrics and leathers, while the back of the seat can be in black, greige or white.‎ The legs of the chair are made of polished chrome-plated or painted steel profiles, making the chair modern and essential, or in solid oak wood, for a more elegant and refined look.‎ The Papilio Shell chair is also available with a trestle base, with or without castors, so that it is also perfect for use in the office: once again, with the change of just one detail, this chair acquires a new identity, demonstrating its great versatility.‎
