The bidet is not only a functional element capable of meeting hygiene requirements but, with new shapes and new colour and material combinations, it furnishes and decorates the bathroom, contributing to the success of an interior design project. The different types of installation offer the right solution for every space condition. Bidets belong to the category of those bathroom furniture products that can survive any fashion and time passing.
Designing the space inside the bathroom is essential to make it accessible and to make sure that the various complements fit properly. There are plenty of design bidet models with timeless elegance and modern or classic styles to choose from.
For reasons of functionality and comfort, they are usually mounted close to the toilet, so their appearance, colour, model and style must be in aesthetic harmony with the toilet. This means that when making the choice, sanitary ware belonging to an aesthetically coordinated set that creates a coherent and harmonious overall look is preferred. Those who are more daring, however, can choose to combine different product lines to freely create the bathroom of their dreams.
The sanitary ware can also be combined with the floor and wall tiles in the bathroom to create the desired atmosphere.
Traditionally, bidets are installed on the floor, similar to toilets. They are a modern reinterpretation of the "intimate toilet" used more than 300 years ago and in fact they represent the perfect meeting point between tradition and innovation. Here, retro charm and modern comfort combine in an extraordinary way. They are particularly suitable for installation in old buildings where the systems are already configured or are a perfect alternative in those bathrooms where space constraints do not allow for installation with flush-mounted elements.
The floor bidet is often the optimal alternative for people with particularly high demands on safety and comfort in the bathroom. Although the other types of bidets offer sufficient load capacity for any body weight, thanks to its stable base, the floor bidet gives a feeling of greater stability and strength. In addition, leaving the wall free makes it possible to install additional handles that are perfect for the elderly and people with reduced mobility so that they can use the bidet safely.
This bidet has a unique yet simple design that can be well adapted to the most diverse living environments. The sanitary fixtures on the floor have a timeless design that manages to survive time and fashion and are still in great demand today for their functionality and understated elegance.
Suspended bidets are among the most popular models and meet the requirements of modernity, style and practicality.
They are a contemporary design element of great visual impact that combines functionality and technology of the highest level. In fact, they are capable of challenging fashions and times. With their wall mounting, which is easy to make and maintain, they offer several advantages. The exhaust pipes are hidden from view as they are installed in the wall. By not having a floor drain and pedestal, cleaning the bathroom floor becomes much easier. In addition, the complete freedom of choice for the seat height of the bidet, thanks to the variable attachment, makes it suitable for people of any height. Finally, the suspended installations, being visually elegant and light, allow to visually enlarge the space making the bathroom bigger and more spacious.
If you are looking for sanitary ware that have a small footprint, then you can opt for flush wall bidets. The peculiarity of these sanitary fixtures is that during assembly, there is no space left between the sanitary fixture itself and the wall. This also facilitates the cleaning phase. The adherence of the sanitary fixtures to the wall allows you to recover centimetres that become precious especially in smaller bathrooms where it is necessary to recover space for easy use. In addition, they have the advantage of hiding unsightly pipes as the drain can be installed on the floor or wall, thus obtaining a bathroom with a tidier appearance.
The stylistic experimentation has turned over the years, not only to the type of installation, but has also increasingly involved the materials with which to make the bidet, which has now become a true design object. Ceramic is the main material for the production of bidets because it is a guarantee of robustness, longevity and reliability, as well as ease of maintenance and cleaning. Those who want to give a refined style to the bathroom can choose porcelain bidets, synonymous with luxury, smooth, resistant and durable surfaces. In general, ceramic materials are widely used to make bidets because they are also very resistant to the formation of limescale, stains and colour changes. If classic white ceramic is the most common solution, modern bidets play with combinations of alternative materials, such as Pietraluce®, stainless steel, or even glass.
In addition to the materials, other features of the bidet you can play with are the shape, angular or more rounded, and the colour.
Those looking for a style that combines classic beauty and captivating elegance, can choose bidets with sinuous lines and neutral colours such as white. The bidet in the total white version only, in fact, can be placed in any context and combined with all the other furniture in the room. If, on the other hand, you want to dare, there are many daring solutions; you can opt for sanitary fixtures with unusual geometric shapes and colours in contrast with the faucets that make each piece extremely refined and unique.
The rectangular bidet, characterized by clean, essential lines and rounded corners, is designed for modern environments, but can easily fit into more classic and baroque bathrooms thanks to its great adaptability to different designs. The oval shape that lends itself well to contemporary trendy environments, is characterized by welcoming, rounded and sinuous lines, designed to make the bidet ergonomic.
Sanitary ware commonly used for intimate hygiene or rare, almost unknown object, the bidet owes its name to the word frances bid, or small, and originally used to indicate the pony.
The association between the two arises because of the physical position that the bidet requires. Its presumed inventor, Christophe Des Rosiers, installed some pieces in the palace of Versailles, only to be dismantled a few years later because they were not used and relocated to the various French rendezvous houses. From this moment on, in many countries, the bidet was associated with prostitution and thus gained its negative reputation.
In Italy, on the other hand, the diffusion began thanks to the innovative Queen of Naples, Maria Carolina of Habsburg-Lorraine, who, after having seen it in France, had one installed in her private rooms of the Royal Palace of Caserta, where it is still possible to admire it. Since then it began to be widely used throughout the Italian territory, until in 1975, through a ministerial decree, it was made mandatory in each accommodation.
Contrary to what is thought, the bidet is not a widespread health care system only in Italy. Even today, it is still quite common in France, although in houses before the 1980s - later it was eliminated to save space in the bathrooms. It is widespread in Portugal, Greece and Spain. In Japan, although there is no real bidet, the washlet, which combines the functions of the toilet and the bidet, is widely used.
In recent years, there has been a great diffusion of the bidet in the United States, both for hygiene and environmental reasons, but also because this sanitaryware immediately recalls the Made in Italy design which is very appreciated abroad.
