RIDDLED FRONT By Casamania & Horm
Riddled front is the result of an advanced technological process, patented by Horm.it. What makes this piece truly unique is its innovative, thin wooden door, which holds the container sides thus allowing hinge-free operation. In addition, the laser-cut fretwork lets the internal light through, projecting a myriad of lights and shadows around the container.
Structure made from melamine-coated and lacquered particleboard. The thickness of the structure is 18 mm, the back panel 10 mm, and the fixed central divider 36 mm. Sides and doors made from a material designed and patented by Horm.it, composed of a sandwich of wood and fabric 2.2 mm thick, which, thanks to a number of superficial incisions made with a laser cutter, can be folded up like origami. Door frame made from solid walnut. Neodymium magnet protected and hidden by the wood used for the door closure. Transparent tempered glass shelves, with polished edge, 5 mm thick. PVC or felt bumpers. Internal LED lights. Painted ABS adjustable feet with aluminium finish. The doors of the storage unit do not have metal hinges to fix them to the structure. The hinge function is performed by the fabric inside the door. The doors have been subjected to 50,000 opening and closing cycles and passed the test for: “Durability of doors UNI 8607:2005” with flying colours.
The originality and workmanship of its legs are the outstanding features of the Riddled table, which incorporates the notion of porosity found in multiple architecture works by Steven Holl. The thin sheets of wood, folded through laser engraving, make this project even more spectacular in its apparent defiance of the laws of physics. These two legs, akin to origami sculptures, allow the passage of the internal light to create a myriad of lights and shadows.
Extra-clear tempered glass top with polished edge, 12 mm thick. Legs made from a material designed and patented by Horm.it, composed of a sandwich of wood and fabric 2.2 mm thick, which, thanks to a number of superficial incisions made with a laser cutter, can be folded up like origami. The stainless steel plates, measuring 30 mm in diameter and 10 mm in height, are fixed with M6x18 screws on the triangular frame made of solid wood and attached with UV adhesive onto the glass top. The legs are fixed on the frame with studs with galvanized thread and flat point. Optional LED system with rechargeable batteries (6 hour battery life) on the inside of the legs.
